Baseball Walks Off In Home Opener Against Saint Anselm, 10-9

Lidsky came in as a defensive replacement before recording the game-winning double

EASTON, Massachusetts (March 20, 2021) – The Stonehill College baseball team opened the season with a 10-9 walk-off victory against Saint Anselm College Saturday at Lou Gorman Field in non-conference play.

Saint Anselm scored a quick first run in the top of the first. Brady Doran walked to lead off the game and Zack Clough found a gap in right center for a standup double scoring Doran from first. The Skyhawks were able to respond in the bottom of the third off three-straight singles. With one out, Roberti singled up the middle, followed by Maher's single to right field, and then Kiely's first RBI single of the season.

Hawks threaten in the top of the fourth stranding a pair on base, as Marshall fended off Saint Anselm on the mound.

In the bottom of the sixth, John Orzechowski led off the inning reaching second on a throwing error and scoring on another error to give the Skyhawks their first lead, 2-1. Herrick and Noah Lucier each drove in a run to give Stonehill a 4-1 advantage. Maher snuck home on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh for an insurance run, 5-1.

With a 1-0 count in the bottom of the eighth, Herrick launched his first-career homerun over the right field fence extending the lead to five, 6-1. Maher and Kiely went back-to-back with their first- and second-career triples, respectively, each putting another run on the board, 8-1.

Eight runs on five hits in the top of the ninth inning gave the Hawks their second lead of the game, 9-8. Kyle Maurice led off the inning with a solo homerun. Saint Anselm loaded the bases five times, where two walks and two hit by pitches led to tallies. In the bottom of the frame, with two outs, and runners on first and second Blaine Lidsky connected for a two-run double to right field for the game-winning double, 10-9.
