Baseball Takes Two Against Wentworth

Skyhawks extend win streak to three to kick off the season

EASTON, Massachusetts (March 21, 2021) – The Stonehill College baseball secured two wins against Wentworth Institute of Technology Sunday afternoon at Lou Gorman Field in non-conference play with scores of 10-1 and 8-6.

Game 1: Stonehill 10, Wentworth 1

The Leopards threatened in the second, as Kyle O'Neil drove a hard grounder just in between the third basemen and shortstop to lead off. Wentworth put runners on first and third and Petit lined out to right field, driving in McManus for a 1-0 advantage.

Stonehill loaded the bases in the bottom of the third six times. Kiely punched the ball out to right field stretching it into double on the throw, scoring Lucier and Herrick, to take the lead, 2-1. The Skyhawks then added eight more runs in the frame off of five hits, three errors, and six walks. Beauregard connected for the Skyhawks' second two-run single and Herrick tallied his first-career double for a RBI.

The Skyhawks stranded only three on base the remaining innings, while the Leopards also stranded three.

Orzechowski went 3-for-5 with 2 runs scored, 2 RBI, double, 3 walks, 2 stolen bases on the day

Game 2: Stonehill 8, Wentworth 6

Key Moments:

After a one, two, three inning, Stonehill came right out with five runs in the bottom of the first, starting off with Duarte's first double of the season, 14th career, clearing the bases for a 3-0 lead. With the bases loaded once more, Roberti found the gap between third and shortstop bringing home Duarte and Herrick, 5-0.

Wentworth put a tally on the board, cutting the deficit to four, 5-1, on an Aidan French single up the middle. Stonehill added three more runs in the bottom of the third with two outs, 8-1.

The Leopards continued to fight back adding four more runs in the fourth on four hits and one error. With the bases loaded, Petit and Freeman singled to the right side bringing home a run each, before French sent a two-run double out to center field, 8-5.


At the plate, Kiely went 3-for-6 with 3 runs scored, 3 RBI, and a stolen base

Wentworth held Stonehill off the bases for the rest of the game, but the Leopards put one more run on the board as Petit crossed home during a double play, 8-6.

Stonehill will face Bentley University on Wednesday, March 21 for a single non-conference game with a first pitch scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at DeFelice Field, before hosting Southern New Hampshire University for four games this weekend.
