Offensive Attack Pushes Baseball Past Saint Michael’s in DH

Swanholm went 3-for-9 with 4 RBI, 2 homeruns

COLCHESTER, Vermont (March 31, 2021) – The Stonehill College baseball team (5-4, 2-4 NE10) found an offensive groove as they defeated Saint Michael's College (0-3, 0-2 NE10) twice in Northeast-10 Conference play on Wednesday at Doc Jacobs Field.

Game 1: Stonehill 13, Saint Michael's 6

Standout Performers:

  • Conor Kiely: 3-for-4, RBI, 2 runs, walk, double, 2 stolen bases

Key Moments:

Ten of the Skyhawks' 13 hits came in the first four innings, as they put up 12 runs. They initially scored two runs in the top of the first on one of Herrick's doubles on the day. Stonehill then strung together six runs on five hits in the top of the second, including a double from Farragher, Swanholm's first homerun of the season, and a double from Rob Duarte to extend their lead to eight, 8-0.

Saint Michael's bounced back in the bottom of the third inning, cutting the deficit in half, 8-4, while they loaded the bases three times. Stonehill matched the Purple Knights' four runs with four of their own, putting their lead back to eight, 12-4, in the top of the fourth.

The Purple Knights squeezed in a run in the bottom of the seventh from an RBI single from Jose Martinez III and another in the bottom of the ninth on a ground out, while the Skyhawks saw a final RBI single from Lidsky to give them their 13th run of the day and their first NE10 win, 13-6.

Key Moments:

Stonehill put up the first two runs of the game in the top of the first, but Saint Michael's quickly responded as Ulysses Luciano belted a three-run homerun for the Purple Knights' first lead of the day, 3-2.

The Skyhawks stranded a runner in the top of the second and the Purple Knights' Dante Moran connected on a two-out two-run single in the bottom of the frame, to extend their lead to three, 5-2. After two silent innings for the Skyhawks, back-to-back four-run innings gave Stonehill their first lead, 10-5. Nine of Stonehill's 20 hits occurred in the fourth and fifth innings.

In the bottom of the fifth, Saint Michael's Brady Perron drove home Andrew Lanthier on a two-out RBI single, cutting the deficit to four, 10-6. With Lucier's second double of the game, Duarte scored and then Ciulla-Hall sent out his first-career blast tallying 2 RBI, for a 13-6 advantage. Saint Michael's threatened in the bottom of the sixth, but Logan Lawrence got out of a bases loaded jam with his third strikeout.

With no outs, Saint Michael's Julien Giroux-Harvey doubled to right center with runners on first and second to cut the deficit to five, 13-8, but Brendan Kelly retired the side, including a pick-off at second base.
