Women’s Track and Field Competes on Day One of NEC Outdoor Championships

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (May 4, 2024) – Stonehill women's track and field competed on the campus of Central Connecticut State University for day one of the Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday.

The Skyhawks finished day one in sixth place with 19 points with Sacred Heart currently sitting in first place with 80.5 points. Saint Francis is in second with 46 points and Central Connecticut follows with 43 points in third place.

FIELD EVENTS

  • Freshman Kayla Oakes (Kingston, N.Y.) placed third in the long jump finals with an outdoor-best jump of 5.46m (17' 11"). Oakes won the indoor long jump in the winter and has now podiumed in consecutive conference championships.
  • Freshman Rachel Morin (Glocester, R.I.) came in 10th place in the high jump, tying the second-best jump of her career as well as having her best jump of the outdoor season, hitting a mark of 1.55m (5' 1").
  • Getting points in the shot put final for the Skyhawks was sophomore Darla Jagrosse (Wallingford, Conn.) who finished eighth with a toss of 12.29m (40' 3.75"), marking the second-best throw of her career and best outdoor mark.

TRACK EVENTS

  • In the first track event of the day, the Skyhawks picked up four points in the 10,000-meter run finals as fifth-year Victoria Lombardi (Peabody, Mass.) finished the race in 38:38.60 to place fifth in her first-ever 10k race.
  • In the only other track final on Saturday, the Skyhawks notched a second-place finish in the 4x800-meter relay race as the team of sophomore Jordan Malloy (Colchester, Conn.), senior Caroline Surrette (Woburn, Mass.), freshman Anna Casey (Medford, Mass.), and junior Emma Lawrence (Milford, Mass.) combined for a time of 9:14.66 in the team's first 4x800m race of the spring.
  • Malloy also competed in the 1500-meter preliminary race, qualifying for tomorrow's final with a time of 4:46.18. Also qualifying for the 1500m finals was sophomore Emily Young (Newton, Mass.) who finished right after Malloy with a new personal record of 4:48.08.
  • Junior Madison Rousseau (Canton, Mass.) qualified for the 100-meter hurdle finals with a time of 14.94 seconds to place fifth. She also qualified for the 400-meter hurdle finals with a PR of 1:05.29. Sophomore Grace Tyrrell (Cavendish, Vt.) will accompany Rousseau in the 400m hurdle finals after setting a new PR of 1:05.30.
  • Lawrence will compete in the 800-meter race final tomorrow after winning the preliminary race on Saturday with a time of 2:14.90. This is the second straight year she has won the prelim at NEC outdoor championships before finishing third in the final last year.
  • Senior Kaytlin Encarnacao (Reading, Mass.) qualified for both the 200-meter and 400-meter finals with times of 24.94 seconds and 57.66 seconds. Her time of 24.94 seconds in the 200m sets a new PR for the senior sprinter.
