Women’s Track and Field Opens Indoor Season at Alden Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (December 2, 2023) - The Stonehill College women's track and field team began its indoor season at the Olney-Margolies Athletic Center as the team competed in the Alden Invitational hosted by Brown University.

As a team, the Skyhawks tallied 51 points to earn a fifth-place finish. Brown would come in first place as the host school, racking up 234 points throughout the day.

FIELD EVENTS

  • In the high jump, freshman Rachel Morin (Glocester, R.I.) made her collegiate debut and placed fifth reaching a height of 1.61m.
  • Senior Abigail Larsson (Bayport, N.Y.) notched a second-place finish to add eight points to the Stonehill team score with a mark of 3.55m in the pole vault, also setting a new personal best in the event.
  • Making her Skyhawk debut was freshman Kayla Oakes (Kingston, N.Y.) who leaped to a mark of 5.40m in the long jump to place fourth.
  • Sophomore Darla Jagrosse (Wallingford, Conn.) set a personal best when she had a toss of 12.54m in just her second attempt of the season in the shot put.

RUNNING EVENTS

  • The duo of junior Emma Lawrence (Milford, Mass.) and sophomore Emily Young (Newton, Mass.) placed eighth and ninth in the mile run, Lawrence finishing in 5:19.13 and Young close behind at 5:28.45.
  • Freshman Madison Stott (Dartmouth, Mass.) made her debut for Stonehill, running in the 300m race, clocking in at 42.87 seconds to place 15th.
  • In the 1000m race, freshman Anna Casey (Medford, Mass.) placed ninth with a time of 3:20.56 in her first collegiate track meet.
  • Freshman Kellie Harrington (Pittsfield, Mass.) carried her strong fall with Stonehill Cross Country into Saturday's meet, placing second in the 3000m race with a time of 10:52.79, less than two seconds behind the top spot.
  • Senior Victoria Lombardi (Peabody, Mass.) and freshman Sydney Kalil (Milford, Mass.) also made the transition over from cross country in the fall, placing fourth and fifth in the 3000m with times of 11:01.87 for Lombardi and 11:04.95 in Kalil's first appearance for Stonehill track and field.
