Lombardi Wins 5000-meter at Holy Cross Invite to Lead Women’s Track and Field

WORCESTER, Mass. (April 20, 2024) - The Stonehill College women's track and field team placed fifth with 79 points at the Holy Cross Invite at the Hart Field & Track on Saturday afternoon.

FIELD EVENTS

  • Junior Madison Gunderway (Cranston, R.I.) finished in eighth place with a throw of 44.71m (146' 8") in the hammer throw, her best throw of this outdoor season and the seventh-best in the Northeast Conference.
  • Senior Cassidy Becker (North Attleboro, Mass.) placed fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 10.94m (35' 10.75"), the best jump of her spring and the third-best of her career.
  • Sophomore Sydney Cahill (Reading, Mass.) set a personal record in the javelin throw, reaching 10.98m (101' 8") to place fifth in the event. Cahill also placed 13th in the long jump with a leap of 4.97m (16'3.75").

TRACK EVENTS

  • Fifth-year Victoria Lombardi (Peabody, Mass.) won the 5000-meter race with a time of 18:42.53, over a minute faster than her last 5000m at UMass to open the spring and her best finish in an event since winning the Suffolk Relays 5000m race on Dec. 3, 2022.
  • Freshman Sydney Kalil (Milford, Mass.) placed third in the 5000m run, finishing the race in 18:58.31 to tally eight more points for the Skyhawks.
  • Junior Madison Rousseau (Canton, Mass.) finished seventh in both the 100-meter dash and the 100-meter hurdles, finishing the former in 12.64 seconds, a new PR, and the latter in 14.81 seconds.
  • Becker also competed in the 100m hurdles, setting a PR in the event with a time of 15.20 seconds to place 10th.
  • Senior Kaytlin Encarnacao (Reading, Mass.) placed third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.44 seconds. Freshman Madison Stott (Dartmouth, Mass.) finished one spot after Encarnacao, setting a new PR with a time of 57.69 seconds.
  • Also competing in the 400m dash was sophomore Grace Tyrrell (Cavendish, Vt.) who also set a PR in the event, crossing the finish line in 59.31 seconds.
  • Sophomore Jordan Malloy (Colchester, Conn.) and junior Emma Lawrence (Milford, Mass.) finished back-to-back in the 800-meter run as Malloy placed sixth and set a PR, running the race in 2:13.92 while Lawrence placed seventh in 2:14.05.
  • Sophomore Aneka Andrews (McLean, Va.) and freshman Kay Wheelock (Milford, Mass.) both competed in the 400-meter hurdles as Andrew placed fifth in 1:08.41, a new PR, and Wheelock finished in eighth place with a time of 1:18.81.
  • Freshman Iasmim De Sousa Vieira (Medford, Mass.) set a new PR in the 1500m race with a time of 5:00.41, coming in 15th place.
  • The 4x100 meter relay team of freshman Katie Gibbons (Pembroke, Mass.), freshman Kayla Oakes (Kingston, N.Y.), Encarnacao, and Rousseau came in second place to earn the Skyhawks eight points with a time of 48.29 seconds, finishing just over half a second behind Holy Cross.
