Encarnacao Breaks Indoor 500m Record at Day One of New England Championships

BOSTON Mass. (March 1, 2024) – Senior Kaytlin Encarnacao (Reading, Mass.) broke a 10-year-old indoor 500m school record as the Stonehill women's track and field team competed at day one of New England Indoor Championships at the TRACK at New Balance.

The top eight finishers of each final are named to the All-New England team for their respective events.

FIELD EVENTS

  • Freshman Kayla Oakes (Kingston, N.Y.) placed fourth in the long jump final, tallying five points for the Skyhawks toward their team score with a distance of 5.49m (18' 0.25"). Her fourth-place finish also earns her an All-New England distinction.

TRACK EVENTS

  • Encarnacao placed first overall in the 500m dash preliminary race with her record-breaking time of 1:14.11, qualifying for tomorrow's final. The record has stood since the NE10 Indoor Championships on Feb. 22, 2014, when Jordan Gray finished in 1:14.83.
  • Sophomore Grace Tyrrell (Cavendish, Vt.) will be joining Encarnacao in the 500m final tomorrow, placing fifth today with a new personal best time of 1:17.96.
  • Freshman Madison Stott (Dartmouth, Mass.) also qualified for the 500m dash final with her time of 1:18.37, placing seventh overall.
  • Junior Emma Lawrence (Milford, Mass.) finished the 800m qualifying race with a personal best time of 2:16.35, finishing in fifth place while securing a spot in tomorrow's final.
  • Freshman Sydney Kalil (Milford, Mass.) set a new personal record in the 5000m race final on Friday, placing 24th and crossing the finish line in 18:35.26.
