Women's Swimming Returns with Dual Meet Win at UMass Dartmouth

Skyhawks turn in 11 event wins in first meet in over a month

DARTMOUTH, Mass. (January 15, 2022) – Stonehill College returned to the pool for the first time since December 5 and turned in 11 event wins in posting a 131-44 dual meet win over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in women's swimming action at the Tripp Athletic Center this afternoon. 

Highlights

  • Freshman Sofiya Gobora led the way for Stonehill with wins in all three of her swims on the afternoon to score a team-high 27 points. She started with a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:17.20. Gobora added a win in the 100-yard freestyle in 58.82-seconds and then completed her day with an impressive 5:01.57 in the 400-yard individual medley.
  • Gobora also swam the lead backstroke leg for Stonehill's 200-yard medley relay that posted a time of 2:01.41. She finished the lead leg in 30.63-seconds, before freshman Sharlotte Lundell completed the breaststroke leg in 32.69-seconds and then sophomore Sydney Stockwell swam the butterfly leg in 27.81-seconds, before junior Maggie Timmoney finished the freestyle anchor leg in 30.28-seconds.
  • Stockwell finished in the top two of her three individual swims, with a pair of winning performances, to score 22 points. She started with a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.58, adding a win in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.13-seconds and then was shaded by Gobora by 0.01-seconds in the 100-free in 58.83-seconds.
  • Sophomore Katie Keating also posted a pair of wins with three top three finishes to score 21 points. She opened with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:12.95, and then won the 500-free in 5:57.49, while adding a third-place finish in the 50-free in 28.39-seconds.

    Sophomore Maddie Conley won the 1000-yard freestyle in 12:07.87 and finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:45.10.
  • Junior Nika Sokolova finished first in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:24.85 after finishing second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:18.43 and 50-free in 28.17.
  • Lundell rounds out Stonehill's event winners on the day, taking first in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:40.62. She also posted second place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.66) and 400IM (5:13.24).

  • Freshman Julie Mastroianni finished second in her two individual swims in the 1000-yard freestyle (12:19.09) and 200-yard backstroke (2:3156).
  • Timmoney added a pair of third place finishes in the 200 (2:25.45) and 500-yard (6:33.25) freestyles.

Stonehill returns to the pool next Saturday for another dual meet, this time at Merrimack College at the Andover YMCA at 2:30 p.m.

Schedule Update: The Northeast-10 Conference announced on Friday date and location changes for the 2022 NE10 Swimming Championships. The Championships will now be hosted by Southern Connecticut State University on February 17-20 at Hutchinson Natatorium.
