Women’s Swimming Posts Pair of Wins in Connecticut

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. (October 23, 2021) - Stonehill College won 12 of 14 events on its way to posting a pair of head-to-head wins against Regis College and host Eastern Connecticut State University in a women's swimming tri-meet at the ECSU Sports Center today.

The Details

  • The Skyhawks posted a 178.00-66.00 victory over Regis College, while outscoring host Eastern Connecticut 174.00-86.00.
  • Sophomore captain Sydney Stockwell won all three of her individual swims to remain undefeated through her first two collegiate meets and was also part of Stonehill's first place 200-yard medley relay that finished first as well. She won the 50-yard backstroke in 28.92-seconds, before adding a win in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.64 as she edged freshman teammate Sharlotte Lundell by 0.32-seconds. Stockwell followed that by winning the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.33.
  • Stockwell swam the lead backstroke leg of Stonehill's 200-yard medley relay that finished first in 1:56.23. Joining her on the relay were freshmen Jami Hepburn, Lundell and Julie Mastroianni.
  • Lundell finished in the top two in all three of her individual events, winning the 100-yard Individual Medley in 1:06.04, edging classmate Sofiya Gobora by a half second. Lundell also took second in the 50 (28.99-seconds) and 100-yard (1:02.96) butterfly.

    Gobora added a pair of wins to her second place in the 100IM. She won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:07.07 as well as the 100-yard freestyle in 58.59.
  • Gobora also swam the anchor leg for Stonehill's 200-yard freestyle relay that finished second to Eastern Connecticut State by just 0.01-seconds. The Skyhawks time of 1:48.61 was led by junior Nika Sokolova, followed by sophomores Maddie Conley and Katie Keating leading to Gobora.
  • Keating added two wins and a second-place finish in individual events. She finished first in the 1000-yard freestyle in a school-record 11:51.77, and then added a win in the 50-yard butterfly in 28.75-seconds. She also finished second in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.22-seconds.
  • Also earning event wins for Stonehill today were Conley in the 500-yard freestyle (5:49.05), sophomore Morgan Gangi in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.33) and Hepburn in the 50-yard breaststroke (32.44).

Up Next

Stonehill is off until Friday, November 5, when it faces its first Northeast-10 Conference opponent at Saint Michael's College, along with Merrimack College, for a tri-meet at 4 p.m.
