NE-10 Soccer Weekly Report

EASTON, Mass. (October 3, 2016) – The No. 5 Stonehill College women's soccer team earned three Northeast-10 Conference awards this week, including Jamie Block as Goalkeeper of the Week, Elizabeth Nerger as Rookie of the Week and Brianna Duserick as Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday.

As a whole, the Skyhawks recorded a 2-0 week, earning victories over Assumption, 1-0, and Saint Michael's, 3-0. The team has thus far posted a 9-0-1 overall record and a 5-0-1 Conference record, giving them the best start since 1999, when the team went 17-3-0. The Skyhawks have now tallied six shutouts and defeated No. 5 Adelphi and No. 20 LIU Post.

Jamie Block (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) assisted the Skyhawks in two Northeast-10 shutout contests last week. The senior recorded eight saves on the week putting her goals against average to 0.59, placing her second in the conference. She also ranks first in wins (9) and save percentage (.875), and fifth in goals against (6).

Elizabeth Nerger (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) registered a three-point week including tallying her second-career goal and her first-career assist against Saint Michael's. In the 29th minute of the game, Madalyn Fernbach (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview JFK) found Nerger at the top of the six-yard box who drove the ball to the right of the outstretched goalkeeper, putting the Skyhawks on top 1-0. Right before the half, Nerger chipped the ball to Andrea Mancuso (Highland Mills, N.Y./Cornwall Central) who was open about 35 yards out. Mancuso was able to get the ball to fall right under the crossbar for a 2-0 advantage.

Brianna Duserick (Canton, Mass./Canton) anchored the back line assisting the Skyhawks to another 2-0 week, shutting out opponents for the sixth contest this season. The senior also chipped in two assists in Stonehill's victories. One assist was against Assumption as Duserick took a free kick from about 40 yards out finding Lydia Beiter (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) for the game-winning goal. Her second assist came off a short corner kick, feeding the ball to Fernbach for an upper 90 tally, in the 63rd minute against Saint Michael's.

Stonehill (9-0-1, 5-0-1 NE-10) competes away from Skyhawk Field for the next three contests. The first is against Bentley University on Tuesday, October 4 for a 3:30 pm Northeast-10 matchup.
