No. 7 Women’s Soccer Records Eighth Shutout Against New Haven, 1-0

Junior Moore tallies fifth-career game-winning goal

Moore leads the team with six goals this season

EASTON, Mass. (October 12, 2016) – The No. 7 Stonehill College women's soccer team registered an early goal and held the University of New Haven to its eighth shutout, 1-0, Wednesday night at W.B. Mason Stadium.

For Stonehill (11-2-1, 7-2-1 NE-10) Meredith Moore (Salem, Conn./East Lyme) tallied the lone goal of the night. Claire O'Brien (West Hartford, Conn./Hall) and Lauren Kapatoes (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) assisted Moore to her sixth tally of the season.

University of New Haven's (5-7-1, 2-7-1 NE-10) goalkeeper Deandra Nash registered eight saves in the nightcap.

Early in the first half, New Haven tallied a foul giving Stonehill an opportunity off of a free kick by Brianna Duserick (Canton, Mass./Canton), but the shot resulted high from about 25 yards back. Two minutes later in the ninth minute of the game, O'Brien sent a long ball to Kapatoes in front of the net chipping it to Moore who was able to collect it after boxing out New Haven defenders, giving Stonehill a 1-0 advantage.

The Skyhawks later recorded a foul, giving the Chargers an opportunity from about 55 yards out, but goalkeeper Jamie Block (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) was able to scoop the ball up keeping the game in favor of Stonehill. The first half remained scoreless as a 10-3 shot advantage gave Stonehill the edge it needed.

The Skyhawks were just as active in the second frame, as another 10-6 shot comparison lifted Stonehill over the Chargers putting its eighth zero in the back of the season.

Stonehill is back in action on Saturday, October 15 when it hosts Pace University in a 2 p.m. Northeast-10 contest on Skyhawk Field. Prior to the contest, the Skyhawks 10 seniors will be honored.
