King and Drugan lead sprints again, while Morin wins 400-hurdles

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (April 9, 2022) – The Stonehill College men's track & field program collected two event wins and 15 top three finishes on its way to a second-place team finish at the Merrimack College Carnival at Duane Stadium this afternoon.

Stonehill posted two wins, with 15 top three finishes and 18 top fives and totaled 139 points. Merrimack won the team title with 309 points, while Bentley University was third with 43 points. 

Highlights

  • Sophomore Solomon King and freshman Shea Drugan turned in strong sprint performances again for Stonehill, with King winning the 200-meter dash in a personal-best 22.31-seconds and then finishing second in the 100-meter dash in a personal-best 10.99-seconds. Drugan was third in both races, finishing the 100-meter dash in a personal-best 11.30-seconds, while clocking in for the 200 in a personal-best 22.52. Freshman Zachary Ofurum placed sixth in both events, clocking in a personal-best 11.40-seconds in the 100-meter dash and then a personal-record 23.15 for the 200.
  • The trio also keyed a second-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay in 42.84-seconds. Ofurum ran the lead leg, followed by Drugan, junior Nate Skopas and then King on the anchor leg.
  • Skopas was second in the 400-meter dash in 52.49-seconds.

    Sophomore Andrew Morin won the 400-meter hurdles in a personal-best 58.72-seconds.
  • Sophomore Connor Hughes finished second out of 15 starters in the one mile run in 4:24.34.
  • Junior Colin Black finished second in the 5000-meter run in 14:56.11 and led three from Stonehill in the top six. Junior Andrew Janus placed fourth in 15:44.28, while senior Shane Braz took sixth in 15:59.29.
  • Freshman Parker Hagen posted two top five finishes in the jumps, taking second in the triple jump with a personal-best distance of 41-feet, 7-inches, while placing fifth in the long jump at a personal-best 20-feet, 2.25-inches.

  • Senior Nickolas McNamee finished third and led four from Stonehill in the top ten of the 800-meter run in 1:59.09. Freshman Jace Hollenbach placed sixth in 2:00.91, while sophomore Noah Drapeau took seventh in 2:01.46.
  • Freshman Sean Theurer placed third in the long jump, clearing a distance of 20-feet, 11.75-inches, while freshman Sam Kelley placed third in the triple jump at 38-11.75.
  • Freshman Alvin George placed third in the javelin throw with a personal-best distance of 135-feet, 3-inches.
  • Freshman Michael Gozzo led a run of three straight Skyhawks in fifth through seventh place for the shot put, posting a top five finish with a distance of 41-feet, 1.75-inches. Senior Robert Lisi placed sixth with a personal-best matching throw of 40-feet, 5-inches, while sophomore Chris Cox had a personal-best distance of 37-10.5 for seventh.

Stonehill returns to Merrimack on Thursday for a Quad Meet with Assumption University and UMass Lowell starting at 2 p.m. Later this spring, Stonehill will host its 13th Skyhawk Invitational on Saturday, April 30, at W.B. Mason Stadium, as well as the Northeast-10 Conference Championships the following weekend, May 6-7.
