FLUSHING, N.Y. (March 18, 2023) – Saint Francis College of Brooklyn battled its way to a 6-1 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast Conference men's tennis action at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Billie Jean King National Tennis Center today.

Highlights

Freshman Lucas Deliano and junior Ivan Bernal were both double-winners for St. Francis Brooklyn in a dual match that saw three matches decided in three sets and four set tiebreakers with another four sets decided by just a break.
Deliano teamed up with freshman Leon Harder for a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles, while Bernal and junior Diego Garcia Gil clinched the doubles point with their 6-4 decision at No. 3.
Deliano fought past Stonehill senior Christian Duffy for a 7-6 (10-8), 6-4 triumph at No. 3 singles for St. Francis, while Bernal notched a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles against freshman Donovan Rodrigues.
Sophomore Jakob Naylor, postgrad Luis Foix Sotos and junior Javier Servera Latorre also win singles points for the Terriers.
Freshman Mateo Mallen won Stonehill's point with a back and fourth 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles over Garcia Gil.
Duffy and senior Ben Simmons notched a 7-6 (8-6) victory at No. 2 doubles for the Skyhawks.
Naylor and Foix Santos battled to three set wins for St. Francis Brooklyn. Naylor edged freshman Mark Kröll 7-6 (10-8), 6-7 (0-7), 7-5 at No. 2 singles. Foix Santos also went three sets with senior Luke Nickerson for a 6-2, 0-6, 6-1 win.

Stonehill (7-11, 0-3 NEC) returns to action next Saturday when it visits Rider University for a non-conference match at 2 p.m. Tomorrow's scheduled match at Fairfield University has been cancelled due to the weather forecast. The Skyhawks next home match is scheduled for Wednesday March 29, when it hosts Bentley University for a non-conference match. St. Francis Brooklyn (2-10, 1-1 NEC) visits FDU next Saturday at 6 p.m.
