Langaard Earns NEC Rookie of the Week Honors

EASTON, Mass. (March 14, 2023) – Stonehill College freshman Mathias Langaard has earned Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week honors and is named to the Conference's Prime Performer list for the first time in his career the league announced today.

Langaard earns the weekly honors for the first time after winning both of his singles matches in a 1-1 week for Stonehill as it capped its annual Spring Break trip in Kissimmee, Florida. He opened the week by winning the deciding point in the Skyhawks 5-2 win over John Carroll University with his 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles against freshman Phillip Gorun. Langaard followed that up in Friday's match against Loyola University of Maryland with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles against freshman Trevor Girandola.

Langaard is a combined 9-11 in his first collegiate season, having posted a 5-4 doubles record with three different playing partners, including a 4-0 mark with freshman Nathaniel Graves. Langaard has posted a 4-7 singles record across the No. 3, 4 and 6 singles spots, including a 2-1 mark at No. 4 after Friday's win.

Stonehill (7-9, 0-2 NEC) is back in action tomorrow afternoon when it hosts Quinnipiac University at the Centre Court Tennis Club in Riverside, Rhode Island, at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks will remain on the road this weekend when it visits St. Francis College of Brooklyn for an NEC matchup on Saturday, before visiting Fairfield University on Sunday. The Skyhawks next home match is Wednesday, March 29, when it hosts Bentley University for a non-conference dual match.
