Mallen a double-winner to lead Skyhawks

DUDLEY, Mass. (September 17, 2022) – Stonehill College picked up its second non-conference win of the fall season this afternoon with a 5-2 decision over Nichols College at Robinson Tennis Courts. 

Highlights

  • Freshmen Mateo Mallen and Nathaniel Graves were double-winners to lead Stonehill to the dual match win.
  • Seniors Luke Nickerson and Ben Simmons also earned singles wins to help the Skyhawks wrap up the win.
  • Junior Trevor Schwarzmann and freshman Yannick DeVet earned points for Nichols with their singles wins.

How it Happened

  • Stonehill swept the three doubles matches, highlighted by a 6-0 triumph by Mallen and sophomore Guillaume Duhil de Bénazé at No. 2. Graves and freshman Mathias Langaard clinched the doubles point with their 6-4 win at No. 3.
  • Mallen added a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles against Nichols freshman Leon Zeis.
  • Graves cruised past sophomore Santiago Perez 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 singles for the Skyhawks.
  • Simmons registered a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles against freshman Ludwig Schlatzer.
  • Nickerson battled back from a set down to battle past junior Caio Dieckmann 5-7, 6-4, 10-8 at No. 4 singles.
  • DeVet won a similar battle at No. 3 singles against Stonehill freshman Mark Kröll 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (7-5), 10-5 with the first two sets both going to tiebreakers.
