Clark and Nelson lead four double-winners for Crusaders

PAXTON, Mass. (February 18, 2023) – The College of the Holy Cross swept the six singles matches after emerging from three tight doubles matches with a point to claim a 7-0 victory over Stonehill College in a non-conference men's dual match at Paxton Tennis & Fitness Club this afternoon. 

Highlights

  • Junior Connor Nelson and sophomore Jeremy Clark led four double-winners for Holy Cross in the win. The duo was both of two 6-4 doubles wins for the Crusaders to clinch the first point for Holy Cross.
  • Freshman Mateo Mallen and sophomore Guillaume Duhil de Bénazé notched a 6-4 win for Stonehill at No. 1 doubles.
  • Clark battled from a set down for a 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 triumph at No. 1 singles against Mallen.
  • Nelson capped his two-win day with a 6-3, 6-1 decision at No. 2 singles against Stonehill senior Christian Duffy.
  • Freshman Mathias Langaard forced a third set at No. 3 singles for Stonehill, before being edged by Holy Cross senior Declan O'Flynn.
  • Freshman Camilo Illanes won a battle at No. 6 singles against Stonehill freshman Nathaniel Graves, 7-6 (7-4), 7-5.

Stonehill (6-4, 0-1 NEC) returns to action next Saturday when it visits Sacred Heart University for a Northeast Conference match. Holy Cross (2-3, 0-0 Patriot) visits Princeton University on Sunday, March 5, at 4 p.m.
