Men's Soccer Drops Conference Matchup to Merrimack, 4-1

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (October 12, 2023) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team dropped its Northeast Conference matchup against Merrimack College, 4-1, Thursday night.

Highlights 

  • Senior captain Jacob Woznicki scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season and fourth in the last two games for Stonehill.
  • Sophomore Colin Milliken dished out his team-leading fourth assist on the year.
  • Woznicki is now tied for the league lead with seven goals on the season, tying his single-season career-high total.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Kyle Tencza made his collegiate debut starting in goal for the Skyhawks and tallying seven saves on the night.
  • Sophomore Laurie Goddard recorded his second hat trick of the season and is now tied with Woznicki for the conference lead with seven goals on the season.
  • Graduate student Johan Feilscher netted his third goal for the Warrios, while senior Juri Schlingmann dished out the lone assist for Merrimack.
  • Junior netminder Nelton Semedo earned the win in net for the Warriors after registering four saves on the night.  

How it Happened 

  • Merrimack came out of the gates strong, scoring two goals off the foot of Goddard in a 19-second span in the fifth minute of the contest. Goddard capped off his second hat trick of the season in the 17th minute scoring off an assist from Schlingmann.
  • Stonehill was able to pull one goal back in the 23rd minute after Milliken connected with Woznicki for his fourth goal over the last two games and seventh on the season.
  • Freshman Tiago Lima-Bittencourt nearly cut the gap in half in the 52nd minute after rocketing a shot on net from inside the box that the Warriors goalkeeper would save.
  • Both sides would remain scoreless throughout the second half until Merrimack capped off its scoring output at the 87:39 mark of the game to seal the 4-1 victory for the Warriors.
