Men’s Soccer Shutout in Road Opener, 3-0

KINGSTON, R.I. (August 27, 2023) – Stonehill College was held scoreless through ninety minutes as the University of Rhode Island netted three goals in a non-conference matchup from the URI Soccer Complex Sunday afternoon in the Skyhawks road opener.

How it Happened

  • In the 12th minute, senior goalkeeper Ryan Coutu  turned away URI's first scoring opportunity with a diving save to his right.
  • The Skyhawks had scoring opportunities of their own in the 17th and 19th minutes as sophomore Terence O'Neill and senior captain Jacob Woznicki both put shots on net that were saved by Nate Diloreto.
  • URI forward Inigo Etxegarai opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a right-footed shot past Coutu to the top right corner of the net from the left side of the box.
  • The Rams added to their lead in the 69th minute when Nate Yurkovic found space in the middle of the box and was able to drill a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner of the goal off a feed from Etxegarai.
  • A penalty kick in the 78th minute put Rhode Island up 3-0 when Michael Hofstetter stepped up and put his attempt in the top-right corner of the net.
