EASTON, Mass. (September 28, 2023) –The Stonehill College men's soccer team battled Northeast Conference opponent Sacred Heart University to a 1-1 draw at Skyhawk Field on Thursday afternoon.

Highlights

  • First-year student Tiago Lima-Bittencourt scored his third goal of the season in the 90 minute to secure a 1-1 tie for the Skyhawks.

  • Senior goalkeeper Carlos Dias Neto recorded six saves in going the full 90 minutes in net for Stonehill.

  • Postgrad netminder Andrew Hammersley tallied one save in goal for the Pioneers.

How it Happened

  • Stonehill wasted little time applying offensive pressure as junior Colin Milliken rocketed a shot on goal at the 1:06 mark of the opening half.

  • The Skyhawks would continue their pressure throughout the first half, registering 11 shot attempts to Sacred Hearts five. However, both sides would head into the break scoreless.

  • After 75 minutes of scoreless play had gone by, the Pioneers would open the scoring in the 76th minute of the contest after a loose ball inside the box found the back of the net off the right foot of Persson.

  • In the waning minutes of the contest, Stonehill was in search of the equalizer when Woznicki drew a foul just outside the 18-yard box, resulting in a free-kick attempt to be taken by Bittencourt.

  • The first-year forward stepped up to the ball and bent a shot around a wall of defenders, finding the upper left corner of the Sacred Heart net to tie the game up at one apiece at the 89:40 mark.
