#10 Field Hockey Blanks Southern Conn. State in Regular Season Finale, 4-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (October 29, 2021) - Stonehill College, ranked No. 10 in this week's Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, closed out the regular season with a third-straight win, defeating Southern Connecticut State University 4-0 in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at Jess Dow Field tonight.

The Details

  • Stonehill clinches the No. 3 seed for next week's NE10 Tournament and will host a quarterfinal round matchup with either Adelphi University, Pace University or the University of New Haven, pending the result of Pace's season finale at Franklin Pierce University tomorrow.
  • Senior Elisha Brinkman played a role in both Stonehill goals in the second quarter with a goal and assist and the Skyhawks didn't look back in securing its third-straight win.
  • Brinkman assisted on freshman Maddie House's first career goal just 31-seconds into the second quarter with a pass from just outside the circle off a penalty corner for a shot in front of the cage.
  • Brinkman's third goal of the season less than three minutes later doubled the Stonehill lead when she took a pass from sophomore Raegan Hickey from the left side and blasted a shot into the right corner.
  • Senior Abigail Campbell preserved her fifth shutout of the season with two saves – both coming in the opening quarter to keep the game scoreless before House's opener.

    Junior Janelle Ward kept Southern Connecticut in the game with 12 saves, including eight in the second half.
  • Junior Calli West's first career goal extended Stonehill's lead to three goals 7:58 into the second half off a pass from classmate Andrea Caradonna following a corner.
  • Freshman Stori Rounds capped the scoring with her second goal of the year off a rebound 4:25 into the fourth quarter.
