How it Happened

  • Sophomore Madeleine McGee scored the first goal of her collegiate career to give Stonehill a two-goal lead late in the third quarter and added a pair of defensive saves on penalty corner defense to help lead Stonehill to the key win.
  • Sophomore Claudia Crowe posted the first points of her collegiate career, playing a role in each of Stonehill's first two markers, with a goal and assist on the night.
  • Crowe scored the first goal of the night with just 17-seconds remaining in the first half off a counterattack as she broke in on a two on one with a single defender, turned to her backhand side for a low shot into the left side of the cage from the top of the circle.
  • It was off a Crowe penalty corner that Stonehill doubled its lead with 2:55 to play in the third quarter. She inserted the corner to senior Elisha Brinkman, who fed a pass to McGee for a drive through traffic into the back of the cage for her first career goal.
  • Saint Anselm pulled back within one four minutes later as sophomore Maddie Davis backhanded a centering pass from the right side by senior Emilie Martin into the cage for her second goal of the season with 1:55 remaining in the third.
  • Stonehill regained its two-goal cushion 4:58 into the fourth quarter when senior Emily Ledoux scored her second goal in as many games when she was able to push the ball over the line during a scrum on the far post off a corner.
  • Saint Anselm closed the gap again less than three minutes later, with senior Carly Lacasse knocking in a rebound with 7:18 to play.
  • Stonehill was able to see the game out from there, however, with senior Abigail Campbell posting two of her career-high 11 saves in the closing four minutes as the Skyhawks fended off a pair of penalty corners during that stretch.
  • Freshman Sidney Falterer finished with five saves in the Saint Anselm cage.

Noteworthy

  • Stonehill's win tonight over No. 3 Saint Anselm is its second over a team ranked in the top three of the Penn Monto/NFHCA preseason poll after its season-opening win over No. 2 East Stroudsburg (Pa.) University on September 4.
  • Stonehill has face each of the top three teams ranked in the preseason top ten posting a 2-1 mark against those teams.
  • Ledoux has scored the deciding goal in each of the last two games for Stonehill after netting the winner in a 1-0 victory at Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday in the NE10 opener.
  • Stonehill has won its last six NE10 regular season contests dating back to October 2019.
