NE10 Field Hockey Weekly Report

EASTON, Mass. (October 12, 2021) – Stonehill College junior back Andrea Caradonna has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week in field hockey for the third time this season, the league office announced.

Caradonna, who also collected NE10 Defensive Player of the Week accolades after the first two weeks of the season on September 6 and 13, is one of two from Stonehill to have been named Defensive Player of the Week an incredible five of the six weeks during the season to date. Sophomore Madeleine McGee earned the weekly honor in back-to-back weeks on September 20 and 29 for the Skyhawks.

Caradonna was an integral member of a Stonehill defensive unit which allowed just one goal for a 0.50 team goals against average, while limiting the opposition to just 2.5 shots per match, including 1.5 shots per match on goal, in a 2-0 week and only yielding two penalty corners for the week. The Skyhawks defense held Molloy College to just one shot and no corners in Saturday's 2-0 shutout win. Stonehill held Saint Michael's College to four shots and two corners in Wednesday's 3-1 win.

Caradonna has started all 12 games on the Stonehill backline this season. She leads a defensive unit which ranks fourth in the NE10 and seventh nationally in Division II with a 1.00 team goals against average, while Stonehill's goalkeepers lead the country with a .868 save percentage. The Skyhawks also lead the NE10 with its five shutouts (3rd nationally).

Caradonna has started all 29 games over her three-year Stonehill career, having contributed a goal and assist for three points and one defensive save, all coming during her freshman season when she was named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team and Synapse Sports Division II All-Rookie Team.

Stonehill (10-2, 8-1 NE10), ranked No. 7 in last week's Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, is back in action on Wednesday night, when it hosts No. 3-ranked Assumption University for a key NE10 showdown at W.B. Mason Stadium at 7 p.m. The Skyhawks also host rival Bentley University for Senior Night as part of Homecoming Weekend at the College on Friday at 6 p.m.
