The Game: Stonehill College aims to even its record and claim its first win over American International College in program history as it visits the Yellow Jackets for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at Ronald J. Abdow Field in Springfield, Massachusetts, this afternoon. The Skyhawks have won back to back games after their 31-6 win over Merrimack on Saturday, while the Yellow Jackets won for the second time in three weeks with a 30-10 win at Saint Anselm.

He's Honored: Stonehill sophomore running back Mike Cordova (Monroe, N.J.) has been named to the Northeast-10 Conference's weekly honor roll on Monday. Cordova led a Skyhawks rushing attack which racked up 197 yards in Saturday's 31-6 win over Merrimack with his first career 100-yard effort, finishing with a career-best 115 yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns. He totaled a game-high 134 all-purpose yards by adding a 19 yard kickoff return for the afternoon.

  The Aces: Senior defensive end Vincent Burton (Randolph, Mass.) is the second straight football player to be feted with Stonehill's Ace's Champions Choice Male Student-Athlete of the Week honors, joining junior quarterback  Matt Foltz (Mount Joy, Pa.) who collected the award last week. Burton led a Skyhawks defense which limited Merrimack to 151 total yards in Saturday's 31-6 win with 2.5 sacks for a loss of ten yards, finishing with three tackles (two solo) for the afternoon.

NFF Scholar-Athlete Semifinalist: Senior offensive lineman Anthony Siciliano (Monroe, N.Y.) is among 156 semifinalists named for the National Football Foundation's National Scholar-Athlete Award and William V. Campbell Trophy the NFF announced on Wednesday. The National Football Foundation will announce 12-14 finalists on November 1, and each will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class. Siciliano, who has earned a 3.43 cumulative grade point average as a computer science major, was a second team All-Northeast-10 selection in 2015 and named to the NE-10 All-Rookie Team as a freshman in 2013. The 2016 Campbell Trophy winner will be culled from the 15 finalists and announced at the 59th NFF Annual Awards Dinner on December 6 in New York City and have his scholarship increased to $25,000. Siciliano is one of just 17 semifinalists from Division II, including five rom Super Region 1 and one of two from the Northeast-10 Conference.

Ground Game: Five different Stonehill players had rush attempts in Saturday's 31-6 win over Merrimack in accumulating 197 rushing yards for the afternoon. Sophomore Mike Cordova (Monroe, N.J.) posted his first career 100-yard game, finishing with 115 yards on 20 carries to mark the second straigth week a Skyhawk went over 100 yards on the ground. Junior Dylan Brown (Tinton Falls, N.J.) added nine carries for 41 yards and a score.

Defense Steps Up: The Stonehill defense shined in Saturday's 31-6 win over Merrimack, limiting the Warriors to 151 total yards, with 106 passing and 45 on the ground, the bulk of which came in the fourth quarter after the outcome was sealed. The Skyhawks responded to a Merrimack touchdown on its opening possession by keeping the Warriors off the scoreboard the rest of the way, limiting them to 41 total yards in the first half – 43 of which came on the first possession – and 71 total yards through three quarters. Merrimack had just nine first downs, including two on the opening possession, three in the first half and five through three quarters.  

He Stecks Up on Special Teams: Stonehill junior linebacker Andy Steck (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) blocked two punts in Saturday's win over Merrimack, both leading to scoring chances, the second of which was recovered in the end zone by freshman Brian Kearns, Jr. (North Arlington, N.Y.) for a 24-6 lead in the third quarter. Steck has three blocked punts over the last two weeks, adding one at Saint Anselm in week four and now ranks second in program history with his three blocks in a season along with Jabari Prince, who had three in 2006. Steck is the first Stonehill football player since Sterry Codrington '15 to block two kicks in a game on his way to a program record five in 2014.  

Getting Good Reception: Freshman Andrew Jamiel (West Yarmouth, Mass.) has posted double-digit reception totals in three of five weeks this season, including a program-record 16 at Southern Connecticut State in week two. He broke the previous single-game mark of 14 receptions by John Gomes '13 against American International in 2012. Jamiel ranks second in both the NE-10 and nationally with his 8.6 receptions per game and he enters this afternoon's game just two catches away from cracking the program's single-season top ten list.

Skyhawks Going National Again: Tickets for Stonehill's October 15 home game against the University of New Haven, which will be broadcast live on ESPN, WatchESPN, are on sale today until halftime as well between the hours of 10 AM and 2 PM in the Stonehill Athletic Offices. For the second time in four years Stonehill's home matchup with New Haven is receiving a national broadcast, after its 2012 contest that was named the Northeast-10 Game of the Year by D2Football.com was televised on CBS Sports Network. This year's game on ESPN3, WatchESPN is scheduled for Saturday, October 15, from W.B. Mason Stadium at 6 p.m. The Stonehill/New Haven game is part of the NCAA Division II Football Showcase, in which 22 regular season games will be carried by ESPN3, WatchESPN and American Sports Network.

Leaders of the Pack: The 2016-17 academic year marks the eighth-straight year, Stonehill College is partnering with Pack Network to provide live "Packcasts" of Skyhawks athletics. However, it marks the first time the webcasts are available free of charge. Stonehill will webcast all home games for football, field hockey, volleyball, men's and women's basketball and women's lacrosse this season, as well as one men's and one women's soccer match this fall. Games can also be viewed on your iPad or iPhone.
