Jamiel Earns NE-10 Player & Rookie of the Week Honors

West Yarmouth, Mass., freshman recognized for record-breaking performance

NE-10 Football Weekly Report

EASTON, Mass. (October 17, 2016) – Stonehill College freshman wide receiver Andrew Jamiel (West Yarmouth, Massachusetts/Dennis-Yarmouth) has been honored for his record-breaking performance Saturday night by being named the Northeast-10 Conference's Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week by the league office today.

Jamiel, who earns Offensive Player of the Week accolades for the first time in his career, collects Rookie of the Week honors for the third time. He led Stonehill to a 21-17 comeback win over the University of New Haven on Saturday night in a game streamed live by Watch ESPN and the ESPN app by breaking his own single-game program record with 18 receptions for a season-high 169 yards and two touchdowns. Jamiel's second touchdown grab was the game-winning score from ten yards out with 1:26 remaining to cap the Skyhawks rally from a 17-7 deficit after three quarters of play. His 18 receptions broke his own previous single-game mark of 16 set at Southern Connecticut State University in Week two and fell one shy of the NE-10 record and five below the NCAA Division II record. Jamiel's first touchdown catch was a 25-yard reception to give Stonehill an early 7-0 lead on its first possession of the game.

Postgame Interview

Jamiel, who has posted double-figure reception totals in five of Stonehill's seven games this season, extends his lead atop the NCAA Division II leaders for receptions per game with 10.4 – nearly two and a half receptions per game in front of LIU Post senior Shane Hubbard's 8.0 catches per game and good for third across all four NCAA football divisions. He has played all seven games for the Skyhawks in his first collegiate season and has already moved into second place on the program's single-season list with his 73 receptions, ranking ninth with his 671 yards to go with five touchdowns, averaging 9.2 yards per catch. He is 19 receptions shy of the program's single-game record of 91 by Nate Robitaille '15 and 21 behind the NCAA Division II single-season mark for a freshman (93) set by Jarett Vito from Emporia State University in 1995. The NCAA Division II single-season mark is 146 by Freddie Martino of North Greenville in 2013.

Jamiel also ranks third in the NE-10 and 34th nationally in Division II with 95.5 receiving yards per game, fifth in the Conference for receiving touchdowns (5) and second for all-purpose yards per game with a team-high 147.9, having surpassed 1,000 all-purpose yards with 1,035. He ranks eighth in the NE-10 for kickoff return average (20.3 yards/return) and 15th in scoring with 32 points. Jamiel has caught ten-plus passes five of the last six weeks, adding 12 receptions at American International College in week six with his two record-setting totals.

Stonehill (3-4, 3-3 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday when it visits rival Bentley University for the 31st meeting all-time at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks return home the following Saturday, October 29, to host nationally-ranked Assumption College for Senior Day at 1 p.m.
