Jamiel Earns NE-10 Rookie of the Week Accolades

EASTON, Mass. (September 12 2016) – Stonehill College freshman wide receiver Andrew Jamiel (West Yarmouth, Massachusetts/Dennis-Yarmouth) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Football Rookie of the Week the league office announced today.

Jamiel had a record-breaking performance in Stonehill's tough 31-27 setback at Southern Connecticut State University on Friday night. He caught a program-record 16 passes for a season-high 149 yards and a touchdown as he finished with a season-best 210 all-purpose yards by adding another 61 yards on three kickoff returns. Jamiel's first career touchdown reception came with 2:04 remaining in the fourth quarter on a 12 yard catch and run and then after hauling in the two-point conversion pass, gave the Skyhawks a 27-24 lead.

Jamiel's 16 receptions broke the previous program single-game record of 14 set by John Gomes '13 against American International College in 2011 and he also posted Stonehill's first 200-yard all-purpose game since Nate Robitaille '15 against Southern Connecticut State on October 25, 2014. Jamiel leads the Northeast-10 with 20 receptions and the Skyhawks with 91.1 receiving yards per game (7th NE-10) through his first two collegiate contests, averaging 9.1 yards per catch with the one touchdown. He ranks second on the team with 147.0 all-purpose yards per game (5th) and with his 22.4 yard average (9th) on five kickoff returns. Jamiel ranks second nationally in Division II for receptions per game (10.0) and 42nd for all-purpose yards per game.

Stonehill (0-2, 0-1 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday night when it hosts LIU Post for a Northeast-10 matchup at W.B. Mason Stadium at 6 p.m.
