The Game: Stonehill College hosts Merrimack College for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at Timothy J. Coughlin (COG-lin) ‘80 Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon as part of Family Weekend at the College as well as the football program’s Alumni Day. The Skyhawks look to build off last weekend’s 45-34 victory over Saint Anselm in the “Battle for the Ol’ Bronze Hawk”, while the Warriors have dropped their last two after a 55-23 setback to 17th-ranked Assumption College last Saturday. Total Dominance: Junior quarterback Matt Foltz (Mount Joy, Pa.) broke his own school record for total yards in a game with his 448 yards in Saturday’s win at Saint Anselm, surpassing his previous mark of 401 yards at LIU Post last season. His 330 passing yards on Saturday are the sixth-highest single-game total in program history and his five touchdown passes fell just one shy of the single game mark. With Purpose: Freshman wide receiver Andrew Jamiel (West Yarmouth, Mass.) and sophomore running back Mike Cordova (Monroe, N.J.) rank No. 2 and 3 in the Northeast-10, respectively, for all-purpose yards per game. Jamiel ranks second with 165.0 all-purpose yards per game, while Cordova is averaging 158.3 per game. Jamiel has surpassed 200 all-purpose yards twice in four weeks of the season this season, including his 203 yards against Saint Anselm on Saturday. Both also rank in the top 25 nationally for all-purpose yards per game with Jamiel 16th and Cordova 25th. Skyhawks Going National Again: Tickets for Stonehill’s October 15 home game against the University of New Haven, which will be broadcast live on ESPN, WatchESPN, are on sale today until halftime as well between the hours of 10 AM and 2 PM in the Stonehill Athletic Offices. For the second time in four years Stonehill’s home matchup with New Haven is receiving a national broadcast, after its 2012 contest that was named the Northeast-10 Game of the Year by D2Football.com was televised on CBS Sports Network. This year’s game on ESPN3, WatchESPN is scheduled for Saturday, October 15, from W.B. Mason Stadium at 6 p.m. The Stonehill/New Haven game is part of the NCAA Division II Football Showcase, in which 22 regular season games will be carried by ESPN3, WatchESPN and American Sports Network. Leaders of the Pack: The 2016-17 academic year marks the eighth-straight year, Stonehill College is partnering with Pack Network to provide live “Packcasts” of Skyhawks athletics. However, it marks the first time the webcasts are available free of charge. Stonehill will webcast all home games for football, field hockey, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball and women’s lacrosse this season, as well as one men’s and one women’s soccer match this fall. Games can also be viewed on your iPad or iPhone. |
