Jamiel Named NE-10 Rookie of the Week for Fourth Time

West Yarmouth, Mass., freshman helped lead Skyhawks to overtime win at Pace

NE-10 Football Weekly Release

EASTON, Mass. (November 8, 2016) – Stonehill College freshman wide receiver Andrew Jamiel (West Yarmouth, Massachusetts/Dennis-Yarmouth) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's football Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season, the league announced on Monday.

Jamiel, who also earned NE-10 Offensive Player of the Week honors once this fall, collects his fourth Rookie of the Week award after posting his sixth double-figure reception game of the season in Saturday's 17-10 overtime win at Pace University on Saturday. He returned after missing the Skyhawks week nine setback to nationally-ranked Assumption College because of injury, to collect 11 receptions for 111 yards and a touchdown at Pace, marking his fourth 100-yard receiving game of his freshman season. Jamiel's 23-yard touchdown catch from junior quarterback Matt Foltz (Mount Joy, Pennsylvania/The Hill School) early in the second quarter gave the Skyhawks a 7-3 lead.

Jamiel, who has posted double-figure reception totals in six of his nine games played in his first collegiate season, leads all of Division II for receptions per game with 9.6 – nearly 1.5 receptions per game in front of Saint Anselm College senior Zach Bartak (8.2) and good for seventh across all four NCAA football divisions. He enters Saturday's season finale at rival Bentley University five receptions shy of Nate Robitaille's '15 single-season program record of 91 set in 2013 and seven away from the NCAA Division II record for freshmen of 93 by Jarett Vito from Emporia State University in 1995.

Jamiel leads the NE-10 with 86 receptions, ranking fourth for yards per game (87.8 yds/gm), fifth in receiving yards (790) and receiving touchdowns (6), and 15th for yards per reception (9.2). His 790 receiving yards this season ranks sixth on the program's single-season list and he ranks 41st nationally for receiving yards per game. Jamiel is third in the NE-10 with 128.2 all-purpose yards per game, having totaled 1,154 all-purpose yards this season, ranking fifth in the Conference for punt return average (4.9 yds/ret) and eighth in kickoff return average (20.3 yds/ret).

Jamiel already owns three of the top five single game reception totals in program history, breaking the program's single-game mark twice this fall. He first collected a record 16 receptions at Southern Connecticut State University in week two, finishing with 149 receiving yards, before surpassing that with an incredible 18 catches for a season-high 169 yards and two touchdowns in a 21-17 victory over the University on New Haven on October 15, in a game streamed live on ESPN3. The reception total set a new W.B. Mason Stadium record, while the receiving yards are the second-highest single-game total in stadium history.

Stonehill (4-6, 4-5 NE-10) closes out its 2016 season on Saturday when it visits rival Bentley University as part of the Northeast-10 Conference's Championship Weekend at noon. The Falcons, who notched a 27-7 win over the Skyhawks three weeks again, finished the regular season as the No. 5-seed in the NE-10 standings, while the Skyhawks are seeded sixth.
