The Game: Stonehill College and the University of New Haven meet for a nationally broadcast game for the second time in four years at Timothy J. Coughlin Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium, as the two matchup for a Northeast-10 Conference contest as part of the NCAA Division II Football Showcast package on ESPN3, WatchESPN. Tonight also marks the Skyhawks “Purple & White” game as Stonehill looks to bounce back from a disappointing 19-0 loss at American International last Saturday. The Chargers enter tonight’s game winners of four straight after a 45-14 victory at Merrimack last weekend.

Media Info: Tonight’s game is being streamed live on ESPN3, WatchESPN and the ESPN app as part of NCAA Division II’s Football Showcase package. Bill Doleman will be handling the play-by-play duties, while Trai Essex serves as analyst. Doleman is a freelance announcer for a number of national and regional networks, including NBC Sports, ESPN, Fox Sports, Big Ten Network and ABC Sports. He recently made his Olympic broadcast debut at the 2016 Rio Games, covering archery and taekwondo. Essex enjoyed a seven year career in the National Football League as an offensive lineman with the Pittsburgh Steelers (2005-11) and Indianapolis Colts (2012), winning a pair of Super Bowls with the Steelers. Links to the webcast, as well as live stats will also be available via stonehillskyhawks.com. WSHL 91.3 FM will also be broadcasting the game, with Matt Grant and Josh Perry calling the action.

Purple & White: Tonight marks the Stonehill football team’s Purple & White Game for the 2016. The Purple & White program highlights one home game per year for each of Stonehill’s 20 intercollegiate athletic programs to promote a positive game environment for its student-athletes. The first 500 Stonehill student-athletes in attendance tonight will recieve a free commemorative T-Shirt for the event.

Big Game Pedigree: Tonight marks the second time in four years Stonehill and New Haven have met through the NCAA Division II football broadcast package here at W.B. Mason Stadium. Their 2012 contest that was named the Northeast-10 Game of the Year by D2Football.com was televised on CBS Sports Network through the NCAA Division II Game of the Week package. The Chargers, ranked No. 3 nationally at the time, won that back and forth battle, 45-41, rallying from a ten point fourth quarter deficit capped by a winning touchdown with six seconds remaining.

The Rest of the Story: Tonight marks the eighth meeting all-time between these two programs, the fourth here at W.B. Mason Stadium. While New Haven holds a 6-1 advantage in the all-time series, including a 3-0 mark here in Easton, the seven previous games have been decided by an average of 12 points, including an average of just 6.8 points over the last four encounters, with three of those four being decided on the last possession, including a 23-17 New Haven triumph in overtime its last visit to W.B. Mason Stadium

Saturday Night Fever: Since W.B. Mason Stadium opened in 2005, night football has been a regular occurance for Stonehill, adding a new wrinkle with Saturday night games starting in 2012. The Skyhawks are 9-13 all-time under the W.B. Mason Stadium lights, including a 5-3 clip on Saturday nights after their week 3 loss to LIU Post.

Split Allegences: New Haven head coach Chris Pincince is a 1994 graduate of Boston University, but his two brothers, Tom and Jon Pincince, both graduated from Stonehill. Tom, a 1997 Stonehill graduate, was a quarterback on the football team and still ranks sixth all-time with his 2,411 career passing yards and 24 touchdown passes. Jon is a 1999 Stonehill grad.

He’s A 4,000 Man: After surpassing 3,000 career yards against Bloomsburg in week one, junior Matt Foltz (Mount Joy, Pa.) became just the fourth quarterback in program history to reach 4,000 career passing yards with his 175 yards at American International last week. Foltz’s 4,064 career yards are just 143 behind Mark Drake ‘92 for third place in program history. He has passed for over 1,000 yards for the second straight season, with his 1,280 yards ranking fifth among NE-10 leaders and 224 yards shy of cracking the program’s all-time single season list for the second straight year.

Getting Good Reception: Freshman Andrew Jamiel (West Yarmouth, Mass.) has posted double-digit reception totals in four of six weeks this season, including a program-record 16 at Southern Connecticut State in week two. He broke the previous single-game mark of 14 receptions by John Gomes ‘13 against American International in 2012. Jamiel regained the NCAA Division II lead with his 9.2 receptions per game after his 12 catches at American International on Saturday - tied for the fifth-highest single game total in program history. The 12 receptions also vaulted him all the way up to a tie for fourth on the program’s single-season list with John Gomes ‘13 with 55 for the season.

Jersey Back: Sophomore running back Mike Cordova (Monroe, N.J.) leads the NE-10 with his 89.2 rushing yards per game (49th nationally). He recorded his his first career 100-yard game against Merrimack with a career-high 115 yards on 20 carries in week five, and is also third in the league with his five touchdown carries.

Iron Man: Senior defensive end Andrew Kibarian (Lynnfield, Mass.) has started 37 straight games on the Stonehill defensive line heading into tonight’s game. He has started 37 of his 40 games played over his career.

Ryan Saving Defense: Senior linebacker Ryan Doherty (Methuen, Mass.) is one of just 18 players in Stonehill history with 200-plus career tackles, entering today’s game ranked 12th all-time with 228 career stops. He has posted seven career double-figure tackle performances, including ten stops (eight solo), with a tackle for a loss of a yard, at AIC last weekend. He is second on the team with his 43 tackles this season (23 solo) - good for 13th in the NE-10.
