Skyhawks Kickoff Weekend: Tonight's game marks the first home event of the 2016-17 academic year for Stonehill. It also kicks off a busy weekend of home events featuring top-level programs in three different sports. Stonehill will host an NE-10 Championship Preview meet here on campus tomorrow morning, featuring the No. 13-ranked Skyhawk women's cross country program, with the men's 8-kilometer race starting at 10 a.m., followed by the 6K women's race at 11 a.m. The No. 5-ranked Stonehill field hockey program hosts top-ranked and reigning NCAA Division II National Champion East Stroudsburg University here at W.B. Mason Stadium at 1 p.m., before closing out the weekend against No. 2 Millersville University here on Monday at 1 p.m. Leaders of the Pack: The 2016-17 academic year marks the eighth-straight year, Stonehill College is partnering with Pack Network to provide live "Packcasts" of Skyhawks athletics. However, it marks the first time the webcasts are available free of charge. Stonehill will webcast all home games for football, field hockey, volleyball, men's and women's basketball and women's lacrosse this season, as well as one men's and one women's soccer match this fall. Games can also be viewed on your iPad or iPhone. Last year's 27-10 win at Bloomsburg marked its first win over the Huskies in four opening games against the PSAC member, snapping a streak of three straight opening losses. It also marked the Skyhawks first opening road win since a 20-14 win at Curry in 2010. Stonehill is 6-8 all-time in week one games at home, including 4-3 at W.B. Mason Stadium. Debut Wins: First year head coach Eli Gardner looks to become the fourth Stonehill head coach to win his first game in charge in the program's varsity era. Stonehill is 3-2 all-time in a debut game for a head coach, having won two straight debut games under former coaches Chris Woods in 2004 (23-6 vs. Assumption) and Robert Talley in 2007 (20-14 vs. Assumption). Preseason Predictions: Stonehill has been picked fifth in the Northeast-10 Conference's preseason coaches' poll for the second straight year. Stonehill received 44 points to sit fifth in the preseason poll, with defending NE-10 champions Assumption College picked to capture its second straight title with 79 points and seven of ten first place votes. The University of New Haven is picked second with 72 points and two first place votes, followed by LIU Post (61 points) and Merrimack College (58), collecting the final first place vote, with Stonehill rounding out the top five. The Skyhawks were also picked fourth by d2football.com NE-10 columnist Paul Falewicz in his preseason rankings as well as Hero Sports. Skyhawks Going National Again: Fo the second time in four yearsStonehill's home matchup with New Haven will receive a national broadcast, after its 2012 contest that was named the Northeast-10 Game of the Year by D2Football.com was televised on CBS Sports Network. This year's game on ESPN3, WatchESPN is scheduled for Saturday, October 15, from W.B. Mason Stadium at 6 p.m. The Stonehill/New Haven game is part of the NCAA Division II Football Showcase, in which 22 regular season games will be carried by ESPN3, WatchESPN and American Sports Network. Of the 22-game slate, 18 games have been predetermined. An additional four flex games (two per network) will be finalized later in the football season and played Nov. 5 and 12.
