Volleyball Turns Back Pace Comeback, 3-1

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (October 29, 2021) - Stonehill College notched its third-straight win and 12th over its last 13 matches with a 3-1 (25-20, 25-15, 29-31, 25-23) victory over Pace University to open a weekend swing through New York in Northeast-10 Conference volleyball action inside the Goldstein Center tonight.

The Details

  • Senior Lauren Wilke and junior Molly Turner combined to set up a trio of Stonehill attackers with double-figure kill totals on the night. Wilke dished out 26 assists to go with five kills, seven digs and two blocks, while Turner added 20 assists and two service aces.
  • Junior Basia Peragine totaled a team-high 15 kills for Stonehill with two assists, two digs and a block assist, while senior Clare Feeman posted a .409 hitting percentage with 12 kills and five block assists.
  • Senior Abby Remick rounded out the Stonehill attack with ten kills, three digs and three block assists, while classmate Carly Russell added 25 digs, five assist and two aces.

    Stonehill looked poised to roll to its third-straight three set win after hitting .424 as a team in taking the second set 25-15 for a two-set lead. Feeman and Peragine closed that set out with back-to-back kills.
  • Pace forced a fourth set by battling past Stonehill 31-29 in the third, fending off three match points before pulling ahead (25-24) on a Skyhawks attack error. Stonehill had four match points in all in the set, before Pace clinched the set with a kill from freshman Morgan Amos and ace by classmate Abby Robertson.
  • Pace held a seven-point lead (17-10) in the fourth set in a quest to force a fifth and deciding set, but Stonehill rallied to clinch the match.
  • Stonehill pulled within two (18-16) on Russell's serve, including an ace, while Feeman put down a pair of kills. The Skyhawks drew even (20-20) with a Feeman and Remick block.
  • Pace was back in front by two (22-20) after a Stonehill ball handling error, but the Skyhawks got a Remick kill and Feeman ace to pull even once more.
  • After an ace from junior Brielle Jones, Stonehill closed out the set behind a Wilke kill, and then block from Peragine and sophomore Lauren McCloskey for match point.

Stonehill (17-6, 7-1 NE10) is right back in action tomorrow afternoon, when it visits Adelphi University for an NE10 match at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks return home on Wednesday, November 3, to host Assumption University at 7 p.m. Pace (1-16, 0-9 NE10) hosts Bentley University tomorrow at 1 p.m.
