Skyhawks bounce back with tenth win over last 11 matches

EASTON, Mass. (October 22, 2021) – Stonehill College bounced back from its first Northeast-10 Conference setback of the season with a commanding 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-15) victory over Le Moyne College in NE10 volleyball action at Merkert Gymnasium this evening.

The Details

  • Junior Basia Peragine led Stonehill's attack with a match-high ten kills, with just one hitting error, for a .409 hitting percentage, to go with two assists, five digs and a block assist.
  • Senior Clare Feeman added nine kills, with just three errors, for a .400 hitting percentage as Stonehill, while classmates Shannon Burgess and Abby Remick chipped in with eight and seven kills, respectively.
  • Burgess also added two assists, a service ace, eight digs and two block assists, while Remick served up three aces and posted eight digs.
  • Senior Lauren Wilke notched her tenth double-double of the season (23rd career) with 29 assists and 14 digs, while contributing three kills and four block assists.
  • Senior Carly Russell collected 17 digs for Stonehill.

    Freshman Emily LaRuffa paced Le Moyne with five kills and three digs, while postgrad Emily Yancone contributed 12 assists, three aces and seven digs.
  • Stonehill jumped out to a quick lead in the match, scoring the first seven points of the first set on Remick's serve. She posted back-to-back aces during the opening run.
  • Stonehill extended its lead to ten (17-7) on Remick's serve again, after a kill by Burgess.
  • Le Moyne got back into the set with eight straight points on the serve of freshman Madison Dembroski, but aided by a series of five-straight Stonehill attack errors, with three Dolphins blocks – all with junior Madeleine Kennedy involved.
  • Stonehill held and closed out the first set win with kills from Feeman and Wilke.
  • Stonehill hit a blistering .516 in the second set, committing just one error on 31 total attacks, and taking control of the set with a 6-2 run on the serves of Wilke and Remick to open a six-point lead (15-9).
  • Leading by seven (19-12), Stonehill scored four-straight point on the Burgess serve and then sealed the set with a Peragine kill.
  • Stonehill scored the first nine points of the third set, the final eight on Remick's serve, and didn't look back in closing out the three-set win.
