Volleyball Keeps Rolling in NE10 Opener at AIC, 3-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 24, 2021) - Stonehill College posted its eighth win over its last nine matches with a 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 25-27, 25-21) triumph over American International College in its Northeast-10 Conference volleyball opener at Butova Gymnasium tonight.

    Stonehill trailed 16-14 in the first set, before a six-point run gave the Skyhawks a four-point lead back-to-back kills from freshman Jentry Allen and senior Clare Feeman, and Stonehill would close out the set from there.
  • Allen added 12 kills, with just two errors, for a .370 hitting percentage for Stonehill.
  • Stonehill held a four-point lead (18-14) in the second set, before AIC regained the lead (19-18) after a kill by Andrea Serra. Stonehill responded with a four-point run to grab a three-point lead (22-19) after kills from seniors Abby Remick and Shannon Burgess, while Remick later closed the set with back-to-back kills.
  • AIC battled back from down 23-20 in the third set to force a fourth, clinching the set from a point down (25-24) with three-straight points off Stonehill errors.
  • Stonehill closed the match out in the fourth, with Allen delivering a kill and sophomore Kristen DeLorenzo sealing the match with a service ace.
  • Remick notched a double-double for Stonehill with a team-high 15 kills and 17 digs.
  • Senior Lauren Wilke also recorded a double-double with 23 assists and 11 digs, while classmate Carly Russell tallied 12 digs and three service aces.

Stonehill (8-5, 1-0 NE10) returns to action on Tuesday for a non-conference match at Mercy College at 7 p.m. The Skyhawks return home next Saturday, October 2, to host Southern New Hampshire University at 1 p.m. AIC (7-6, 0-2 NE10) hosts Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
