Skyhawks win non-conference matches with Southern N.H. and Assumption

EASTON, Mass. (September 11, 2021) – Stonehill College opened its home schedule with a pair of non-conference wins over Southern New Hampshire University and Assumption University in a volleyball tri-match at Merkert Gymnasium today.
Stonehill battled back from a set down by winning the fourth and fifth sets to claim a 3-2 triumph (25-20, 14-25, 25-27, 25-13, 15-9) in the opening match of the day against Southern New Hampshire, before cruising to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-17) victory over Assumption in the final match of the afternoon.
Senior outside hitter Abby Remick posted double figure kill totals in each match to lead the way for Stonehill. Senior Lauren Wilke averaged 8.0 assists per set for the afternoon, while classmate Carly Russell averaged 4.5 digs per set and totaled five service aces for the day.

- After winning the opening set, Stonehill found itself down two sets to one after dropping the third 27-25 but rallied with convincing set wins in the fourth and fifth to post its first win of the season.
- Wilke engineered the attack with a season-high 43 assists, distributing to four with double-digit kills.
- Stonehill served up a combined eight service aces in the fourth and fifth sets to key the victory and posted a .455 team hitting percentage in the fifth set alone.

- Stonehill rolled in its second match of the day, hitting over .300 as a team in the first and second sets on its way to a .286 team hitting percentage for the match, finishing with just 11 hitting errors over the contest.
- Stonehill also posted nine team blocks in the match, playing role in Assumption hitting .076 as a team.

Stonehill (2-4, 0-0 NE10) heads to Western New York next weekend for the Redhawks Tournament, hosted by Roberts Wesleyan College on Friday and Saturday. The Skyhawk open against host Roberts Wesleyan on Friday at 2 p.m., before facing D'Youville College at 4:15 p.m. The Skyhawks return home next Tuesday, September 21, to host Bentley University for a non-conference match at 7 p.m.
