Men's Track and Field Puts Together Strong Showing At David Hemery Valentine Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. (February 12, 2022)-Stonehill College men's track and field team competed at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational Saturday on the campus of Boston University where the squad had solid showings all-around that included seven top-30 finishes on the day. 

Highlights:

  • Jacob Pacheco paced the Skyhawks with his eighth-place finish in the pole vault with a height of 4.40 meters. Along with the top-10 finish, Pacheco set a new personal record topping his previous high of 4.35 meters that was set last week at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships. Not far behind was Cody DeAngelo who finished in 13th place with a leap of 4.25 meters which also was a personal record. 
  • Solomon King had a strong day posting a top-10 finish in his first-ever high jump and setting a personal best in the 200-meter race. First, in the high jump, King posted a solid jump in his first time competing in the event at 1.91 meters for ninth place. Next, in the 200-meter, King finished 98th at 22.76 seconds which was a new personal best. King topped his previous high of 23.56 seconds set back in January at the Beantown Challenge.
  • In the 60-meter hurdles, Jake Dwyer notched a top-30 finish (24th) when he crossed the line at 9.53 seconds. 
  • For throwing events, the Skyhawks saw two top-30 finishes in the weighted throw event. Robert Lisi and Ethan Peck notched 19th and 21st place finishes respectively. Lisi had a toss of 13.08 meters and every time he has competed in the weighted throw event this season, Lisi has always finished in the top-20.
  • Meanwhile, Peck's throw was marked at 12.47 meters. In four out of his last five times competing in the weighted throw, Peck has finished within the top-20. 

Other Performances:

  • Sam Anderson had a strong jump in the high jump event when he posted a jump of 5.65 meters. Anderson's jump was yet another Stonehill top-30 finish on the day.
  • During the 3,000-meter race, Aidan Byrne ran for a career-best at 8:53.95 for an 86th place finish. Byrne topped his previous high (9:11.16) set back in April. 
  • In the mile, two Skyhawks posted personal highs. Colin Black crossed the finish line at 4:23.14 (214th place) which topped his previous best (4:28.34) set at the URI Coaches Invitational last month. Meanwhile, Patrick Garratt posted a time of 4:25.33 (226th place) and topped his previous high (4:28.79) also set at the URI Coaches Invitational last month. 
  • Shea Drugan and John Paulhamus also set personal records when they competed in the 200-meter race. Drugan had a time of 22.67 seconds (90th place) which topped his previous high of 23.01 set back in January at the Beantown Challenge. Paulhamus crossed the finish line shortly after at 23.13 seconds (129th place) and topped his previous best of 23.48 set back in May.

Stonehill has much deserved time off before competing in the Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Championships on Thursday, February 24 in the Reggie Lewis Center at a time to be determined later.
