Black won the 5000-meter run on Saturday

Hopedale, Massachusetts, junior is Skyhawks lone event winner in 5000m

WORCESTER, Mass. (April 23, 2022) – The Stonehill College men's track & field program got an event win from junior Colin Black to highlight six top three finishes at the Holy Cross Invitational, hosted by The College of the Holy Cross, at Hart Track today. 

Highlights

  • Black won the 5000-meter run in 15:18.10 to lead a list of four Stonehill runners in the event with 15 entries overall. Sophomore Aidan Byrne finished sixth to lead a trio of Skyhawks in sixth through eighth place in 15:52.58, while sophomore Patrick Garratt was seventh in 15:56.51 and junior Reilly Johnston finished eighth in 16:01.06.
  • Sophomore Solomon King turned in a pair of second place finishes and two personal-bests on the day, starting with the 400-meter dash in 49.25-seconds to lead three from Stonehill out of 17 entries. Junior Nate Skopas placed ninth in 53.43-seconds. King also finished second out of 17 entries, including four Skyhawks, in the 200-meter dash in a personal-best 22.09-seconds. Freshman Zachary Ofurum placed eighth in the 200m in a personal-best 23.00.
  • Sophomore Connor Hughes turned in a second place finish out of 19 entries in the 1500-meter run in 3:58.51.
  • Freshman Parker Hagen placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 41-feet, 0.25-inches. He was also ninth in the long jump by clearing a distance of 19-feet, 9.75-inches, just behind classmate Sean Theurer in eighth with a distance of 20-02.5-inches.
  • Senior Shane Braz finished second in the 10,000-meter run in 32:35.01.
  • Stonehill finished the event in fourth in the team standings with 65 points. The University of Maine won the team title with 186 points, followed by the University of Massachusetts (138 points) in second and host Holy Cross (98) in third.

  • Sophomore Jacob Pacheco competed in the javelin throw for the first time and placed fourth with a distance of 175-feet, even.
  • Senior Robert Lisi placed fifth out of 11 entries in the hammer throw with his distance of 135-feet, 11-inches. Freshman Ethan Peck finished seventh at 129-feet.
  • Senior Nickolas McNamee finished sixth out of 19 runners in the 800-meter run in a personal-best 1:56.51 to score a point for Stonehill.
  • Ofurum led two Stonehill runners in the 100-meter dash, placing ninth out of 17 entries in 11.43-seconds.
  • Freshman Michael Gozzo posted an eighth place finish out of 17 entries in the discus throw by clearing a personal-best 129-feet, 10-inches. He also placed 14th out of 19 entries in the shot put with his distance of 40-feet, 9-inches. Lisi was right behind in 15th with his throw of 40-08.25.

Up Next

Stonehill returns to action next Saturday, when it hosts its 13th Skyhawk Invitational at W.B. Mason Stadium, starting at 10 AM. The following weekend, the Skyhawks host the Northeast-10 Conference Championships at W.B. Mason Stadium on May 6-7.
