EASTON, Mass. (May 3, 2022)- Freshman thrower, Michael Gozzo was named the Northeast-10 Conference Field Rookie Of The Week for the first time this season and in his career, as announced by the conference earlier this afternoon.
Gozzo had a strong outing at the Skyhawks Invitational as he grabbed two top-five finishes in each throwing event he competed in. First, in the discus, Gozzo set a personal record with a third-place toss of 39.75 meters. His toss in the discus is ranked within the top-15 of the NE10 (12th) and is third-best among all freshmen in the conference. In shotput, Gozzo recorded a throw of 12.92 meters which was also good for third place.
So far this outdoor season, each time Gozzo has competed in the discus, he has finished in the top-10 in three out of the five meets this season. He also has posted throws over 35.00 meters in each meet as well. In shotput, Gozzo has finished within the top-10 in three out of the five meets this season including a ninth-place finish at the UMass Lowell Invitational in March where he set a career-high 12.96-meter toss. His throw at UMass Lowell is a top-15 throw in the NE10 (15th) and a top-10 among all freshmen (sixth).
Coming up this week for Gozzo and Stonehill, the squad will host the NE10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, May 6-7. After the NE10 Championship, the Skyhawks then head to Bryant University for the New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday, May 13-14.
