King and Pacheco Earn All-Conference Honors After Strong First Day At Ne10 Indoor Championship

ROXBURY, Mass (February 24, 2022)-After the first day at the Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Championship, the Stonehill College men's track and field team currently sit in third place (36 points) while American International College (40 points) and Southern Connecticut State (80 points) are the only schools ahead of Stonehill. However, the squad had a strong outing as Solomon King and Jacob Pacheco earned All-Conference honors for their top-three finishes in the high jump event. The Skyhawks also saw four student-athletes qualify for the finals of their respective events and had six top-five finishes on the day. 

Highlights:

  • In the high jump event, King and Pacheco secured 14 points for Stonehill as the two finished in second and third respectively. In his NE10 Indoor Championship debut, King tied his personal best with a leap of 1.91 meters and earned eight points for the Skyhawks. Meanwhile, Pacheco also had a jump of 1.91 meters which was just short of his career-best (1.92 meters), and earned six points for Stonehill. In the three other times, Pacheco has competed in the high jump, he has had jumps of 1.85 meters or higher. Pacheco also competed in the pole vault where he reached a height of 4.28 meters for a fourth-place finish and earned five more points for the purple and white. 
  • Cody DeAngelo also earned points in the pole vault when he claimed four key points with his fifth-place finish at a height of 4.28 meters. Not only did DeAngelo earn points for Stonehill, but he also set a new personal best topping his previous high of 4.25 meters set a couple of weeks ago at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational. 
  • During the 5,000-meter run, Stonehill earned another six points thanks to the fifth-place finish (four points) by Colin Black when he set a new career-best with a time of 15:18.42 which surpassed his previous best (15:18.42) from the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships at the beginning of February. Not far behind Black was teammate Patrick Garratt when he crossed the finish line in seventh place (two points) at 15:28.57. Shane Braz rounded out the Skyhawks runners within the top-15 when he finished in 12th place at 16:08.96.
  • Stonehill's distance medley relay team notched a top-five finish (fifth) with a time of 10:44.20. Ian CannNoah DrapeauConnor Hughes, and Nickolas McNamee were the four runners who helped the Skyhawks earn a crucial four points during the race.

Other Performances:

  • For the weighted throw event, Stonehill came away with three points courtesy of seventh and eighth place finishes by Chris Cox (13.95 meters) and Robert Lisi (13.85 meters) respectively. Cox not only earned two points in the event, but he threw a new career record that topped his previous high of 13.67 meters set back in December at The Art Kaddish Elm City Challenge. Ethan Peck also saw action in the weighted throw and notched a 10th place finish with a personal-best toss of 13.38 meters. His previous best was 13.30 meters set back in January at the Beantown Challenge. 
  • King's strong debut continued in the 200-meter preliminaries when he raced to a sixth-place finish at 22.44 seconds which qualified him for tomorrow's finals. Along with qualifying for the finals, King also recorded a new personal record that topped his previous best of 22.76 seconds back at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational. 
  • In the 800-meter preliminaries, McNamee collected a seventh-place finish with a season-best time of 1:55.56 and qualified him for the finals tomorrow.
