Men's Track Participates In Coaches Tribute Meet

KINGSTON, R.I. (January 22, 2022)-Stonehill men's track resumed their indoor season traveling to the University of Rhode Island for the Coaches Tribute meet on Saturday where the squad was paced by Ian Cann who took home third place in the 1,000 meters race.

Highlights:

  • For the first time in his collegiate career, Cann competed in the 1,000 meters race and was impressive for Stonehill. Cann recorded a strong time of 2:35.25 to finish in the top-five (third). In three out of the four events Cann has raced in this season, the sophomore has finished within the top five. 
  • Jacob Pacheco set a personal best in the pole vault in the afternoon with a height of 4.35 meters (sixth place). His new career-high topped a previous best of 4.22 meters set back at Beantown Challenge earlier this month. Pacheco posted another top-10 finish on the day when he competed in the long jump for the first time in his collegiate career. In the event, he posted a mark of 6.38 meters for ninth place. 
  • Not far behind Pacheco in the pole vault was Cody DeAngelo. DeAngelo posted a top-10 finish in the event (seventh) with a height of 4.05 meters. So far in each meet this season, DeAngelo has finished in the top-10 every time he has competed in the pole vault. 

Other Performances:

  • In the mile, two Skyhawks finished within the top-15 (Colin Black and Patrick Garratt). First, Black ended up finishing ninth when he crossed the line at 4:28.34 for a new personal best. His new high topped his previous best of 4:35.29 set back in February 2020 at the same exact meet. Garratt finished shortly after Black with a time of 4:28.79 which resulted in an 11th place finish. Today's mile run was the first time in his collegiate career he has competed in the event. 
  • Jace Hollenbach for the first time in his career competed in the 3,000 meter race and finished in 9th with a solid time of 9:10.43. Today's race in the 3,000 meters also marked Hollenbach's collegiate indoor track debut.
  • For throwing events, Stonehill took two spots in the weight throw event with tosses from Chris Cox and Ethan Peck. Cox led the way in the event with a throw of 12.91 meters which resulted in a 15th place finish. Peck was only a few spots back in 18th place when he had a toss of 12.07 meters. For Peck, each time he has competed in the weight throw event, he has finished within the top-20.

Stonehill will travel to the University of Southern Maine for the USM Husky Invitational on Saturday, January 29.
