Men's Track & Field Sprints to Second in Outdoor Opener at UMass Lowell

Drugan turns in two top three sprint finishes, while King takes 100m dash, to lead Skyhawks at UMass Lowell Invitational

LOWELL, Mass. (March 26, 2022) – The Stonehill College men's track & field program opened its outdoor schedule with a second-place team finish at the UMass Lowell Invitational, hosted by the University of Massachusetts Lowell, at Cushing Field Complex today.

Stonehill swept the top two spots in the 100-meter dash to headline nine top five finishes on the day as the Skyhawks posted a second-place team finish at the event. Stonehill scored 56 points to finish behind only hosts UMass Lowell, who took the team title with 229 points. The Skyhawks finished ahead of third place University of Hartford (54 points), fourth place Boston University (51) and fifth place Harvard University (47) as one of three non-Division I programs entered in the meet.

  • Drugan
    Stonehill swept the top two spots in the 100-meter dash, with four of the seven Skyhawk sprinters entered finishing in the top ten. Sophomore Solomon King won in 11.21-seconds in his collegiate debut, with freshman Shea Drugan taking second in 11.36. The duo finished ahead of four Division I entries, while freshman Zachary Ofurum took seventh in 11.54, while junior Nate Skopas placed ninth in a personal-best 11.60.
  • Drugan also posted a top three finish in the 200-meter dash, taking third in 23.05-seconds, while Ofurum placed fifth in 23.36-seconds and Skopas took eighth in a personal-best 23.63.
  • Sophomore Cody DeAngelo placed second out of ten entries in the pole vault by clearing a personal-best height of 13-feet, 9.25-inches.
  • Sophomore Jacob Pacheco placed second out of seven entries in the high jump by clearing a height of 6-feet, 3.25-inches. King also competed in the event and cleared 5-11.25.
  • Senior Nickolas McNamee finished fourth out of 32 entries in the 1500-meter run in 4:02.22. Sophomore Connor Hughes took sixth in a personal-best 4:02.73, while sophomore Ian Cann placed 13th in a personal-best 4:05.20.

  • Junior Jake Dwyer finished fifth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 17.80-seconds.
  • Sophomore Andrew Morin scored a point for Stonehill with his sixth-place finish in the 400-meter dash in 52.79-seconds, while junior Casey Ivester placed seventh in 53.32.
  • Freshman Jason Webber finished third in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:02.35.
  • Freshman Michael Gozzo led Stonehill in both the shot put and discus throw. He placed ninth in the shot put with a distance of 42-feet, 6.25-inches, while recording a throw of 121-feet, 11-inches in the discus for 11th place.
  • Senior Robert Lisi posted an eighth-place finish in the hammer throw with a personal-best distance of 141-feet, 9-inches, while adding a throw of 38-feet, 1.25-inches in the shot put.

Stonehill is back in action next Saturday, when it competes at the SNHU Spring Invitational, hosted by Southern New Hampshire University, at Penmen Stadium in Manchester, New Hampshire. Later this spring, Stonehill will host its 13th Skyhawk Invitational on Saturday, April 30, at W.B. Mason Stadium, as well as the Northeast-10 Conference Championships the following weekend, May 6-7.
