BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (February 18, 2022)-In another Northeast-10 Conference battle, the Stonehill College men's hockey team fell to Saint Michael's College, 7-2 Friday evening at the Bridgewater Ice Arena.

The Details:

  • In an evenly played first period, neither side found the back of the net for the most part as both sides were scoreless for the majority of the period before Saint Michael's broke the scoreless tie with under two minutes left in the period (1:40). Case Kantgias scored on the power-play after corralling the pass from Sel Narby and Zach Taylor
  • The Purple Knights added to their lead a little more than midway in the second period (11:46) when Tyler Dorval had a breakaway and beat Skyhawks netminder, Gavin FitzPatrick.
  • However, Stonehill responded and cut the deficit to one (2-1) in a quick manner scoring just a minute after Saint Michael's scored (10:51). Ryan King connected on a Skyhawks power-play opportunity as he ripped a wrist shot from the right face-off circle past Purple Knights goalie, Marshall Murphy
  • Saint Michael's ended up adding two more goals to close out the period from both Owen Rudicus and David Ciancio at the 2:30 and 1:07 marks of the second period respectively to make it 4-1 after two.
  • At the beginning of the third period (18:30), the Purple Knights continued their offensive momentum when Zach Taylor increased the lead to 5-1.
  • The Skyhawks cut it down to three (5-2) when Brendan Nehmer found the back of the net after he received great lead passes from both Kyle Heath and John Peloso with 17:47 left in the contest.
  • Despite cutting in Saint Michael's lead, the Purple Knights tacked on two more goals off the sticks of Dorval (16:12) and Cameron Stewart (12:28) and made it 7-2.
  • Overall on the evening, FitzPatrick made 23 saves in 49:34 of action followed by John Day who took over in the third period with 10:26 between the pipes and made three saves. For the visitors, Murphy collected 16 saves.
