Ice Hockey Soars Past Johnson & Wales, 8-1

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (December 3, 2021) - Stonehill College saw three different players score two goals on the evening as Brendan Nehmer, Charles Page, and John Peloso each found the back of the net in an 8-1 victory over Johnson & Wales University in non-conference men's ice hockey action at the Bridgewater Ice Arena tonight.

The Details

  • In an offensive outburst, Stonehill scored a season-high eight goals and saw three different Skyhawks score two goals on the evening. Brendan NehmerCharles Page, and John Peloso each netted two goals apiece as Stonehill utlized a four-goal second period to send the Skyhawks on their way to the win.

  •  Stonehill led tonight's contest wire to wire as they ended up scoring right away in the first period just 3:55 into action as Nehmer found Peloso on a great look which put the Skyhawks up 1-0 early on.

  • John Day helped Stonehill maintain their slim lead as he recorded six of his 19 saves throughout the first period before the Skyhawks went on to add seven more goals in the second and third periods. On the evening, Day's 19 saves was the seventh time this season he has recorded 15 or more saves. For the visitors, Jaxon Friedman and Jacob Perrin combined for 28 saves (Friedman-15 saves and Perrin-13 saves).

    Peloso posted had a season-high four points on the night as tallied two goals and dished out a season-best, two assists. Page's two goals now put the senior captain at four on the year. Meanwhile, Nehmer now leads the squad with six goals after his two-goal performance.
  • After Stonehill made it 3-0, JWU cut into the deficit as the Wildcats captialized on a power play opportunity when Austin Withycombe skated up the ice and found Matt Gulack for the lone JWU goal. From there, Stonehill pushed away as they closed out the period on two goals apiece from Peloso and Page.
  • In the third period, Stonehill recieved goals from three different Skyhawks (Nehmer-3:07, Kyle Heath-04:48, and Mitchell Nenninger-13:50). Nenninger's goal late in the thrid, was the first of his collegiate career as Nehmer and Will Cohen helped set up the junior forward for the opportunity.
