NASHUA, N.H. (February 5, 2022)-John Peloso scored his team-leading ninth goal but unfortunately it was not enough as the Stonehill College men's ice hockey team fell to Rivier University, 3-1 Saturday night in non-conference action at the Conway Arena.

The Details:

  • Rivier got the scoring started not even one minute into the first period (19:04) when Nicolas Paolucci won the faceoff and swung the puck over to Milan Breczko who sent his shot past Stonehill goalie, Gavin FitzPatrick for the early 1-0 lead.
  • However after a hard-fought first period, the Skyhawks evened things up at one with just a little over six minutes left (06:45). Brendan Nehmer swung the puck over to Pelso and sent a wrister by Raiders netminder, Andrew LoRusso. Nehmer's assist was his team-leading ninth on the season.
  • FitzPatrick helped Stonehill maintain the tie for the rest of the period as he made 10 of his 37 saves in the last 06:45 of the first.
  • The Raiders ended up using a two-goal second period that ended up helping secure the win for Rivier. Breczko scored his second goal of the contest with 12:34 left in the period capitalizing on a power-play opportunity. Just 19 seconds later (12:15), Rivier tacked on an insurance goal Bryan Van Ness after Zach Winslow had won the face-off.
  • Despite being down 3-1, Stonehill drew a power-play with just 04:39 left in the period that saw shots from both Peloso and Mike Seoane but were turned away by LoRusso.
  • Stonehill continued to threaten in the third frame doubling up Rivier in shots (12-6) that included a power-play chance with Peloso putting a shot on the net. LoRusso turned him away and ended up making 37 saves on the evening.
