NORTHFIELD, Vt. (February 8, 2022)- Brendan Nehmer scored his team-leading 10th goal and captain Charles Page also added his sixth goal of the year, however, the Stonehill College men's hockey team came up just short. The Skyhawks fell to the Saint Michael's College Purple Knights 3-2 Tuesday evening in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Kreitzberg Arena.

The Details:

  • Saint Michael's struck first early with 15:59 left in the first period when Matt Egan corralled the puck and pushed up the ice. When he got to the left face-off circle, he sent a shot that went wide of John Day but Egan followed up on his shot to sneak the puck past Day's left side.
  • The Skyhawks did not let the early deficit deter them as the squad evened things up at one when they drew a power-play opportunity just under 13 minutes in the period (12:59). Nehmer collected the puck at the right face-off circle and rifled home a wrister past Purple Knights goalie, Marshall Murphy
  • However, Saint Michael's utilized a two-goal period second period that ended up helping the Purple Knights ultimately pull away. Sel Narby at 7:08 ended up putting his shot past Day's glove side and then nearly two minutes later (5:54) Jack MacDonald collected a missed shot that deflected in front of Stonehill's net that ended up making it 3-1.
  • Stonehill had an opportunity to cut into the deficit after drawing their fourth power-play chance with a little over four minutes left (4:07). During the power-play, the Skyhawks recorded three shots (Teddy McElaneyKyle Heath, and Drew Gardner) but were turned away by Murphy.
  • Heading into the third period, the Skyhawks drew their sixth power-play chance and this time capitalized off the stick of Page. Kyle Heath won the face-off in the right circle and then Page sent him a hard wrist shot that went past Murphy to cut the deficit to one (3-2).
  • Halfway through the final frame, Stonehill had their last power-play chance to even things up peppering Murphy with three shots including one by Heath that ricocheted off the post.
  • On the evening, Day collected 36 saves on 39 shots. Meanwhile, for the hosts, Murphy recorded 19 saves on 21 shots.
