Ice Hockey Defeats Franklin Pierce, 5-3

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (November 6, 2021) - Stonehill College scored three goals in the second period to take control of the game and converted on 3-of-6 power play chances on its way to a 5-3 victory over Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference ice hockey action at the Bridgewater Ice Arena tonight.

The Details

  • Junior John Peloso led the way for Stonehill with a hat trick, scoring his first three goal of the season, including two of the Skyhawks three power play goals.
  • Senior Mike Seoane chipped in with two assists on the night, while Stonehill also got goals from junior Brendan Nehmer and freshman Nolan FitzPatrick.
  • Freshman Gavin FitzPatrick earned the win in his collegiate debut in goal for Stonehill, finishing with 25 saves, including 11 in the third period to make the Skyhawks lead stand up.
  • Senior Ryan Gorbett scored a pair of first period goals to lead the way for Franklin Pierce as the Ravens held a 2-1 lead at the first intermission.
  • Senior Kyle Martin registered 14 saves in the Franklin Pierce goal.
  • Franklin Pierce held a 2-1 lead after a period of play with Gorbett's two tallies sandwiching FitzPatrick's first career goal at 11:22. Gorbett opened the scoring at 6:25 and then added his second at 15:27.

    Peloso scored the first two goals of a three-goal second period as Stonehill took a lead it would not relinquish. He scored the first two goals of the stanza, starting with his first of the season 5:50 into the period, assisted by Seoane, before adding a power play tally at 9:31, assisted by Seoane and senior Charles Page.
  • Nehmer's power play goal, assisted by senior Joshua Loveridge, capped the second period scoring and gave the Skyhawks a 4-2 lead.
  • Peloso's hat trick goal extended Stonehill's lead to 5-2 2:13 into the third period, assisted by junior Teddy McElaney, before Franklin Pierce pulled one back with a power play goal of its own with 5:45 remaining off the stick of junior Dom Norris.

Stonehill (2-2-0, 2-0-0 NE10) is off until next weekend, when it opens a two game weekend series at Saint Anselm College on Friday, November 12, at 7 p.m. The Skyhawks return home on Saturday, November 20, to host Southern New Hampshire University for their Purple & White Game at the Bridgewater Ice Arena at 4:30 p.m. Franklin Pierce (0-2-0, 0-2-0 NE10) hosts Rivier University for a non-conference matchup on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
