Second Half Surge Sends Sacred Heart Past Women's Soccer, 4-0

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (October 12, 2023) – Sacred Heart University scored all four goals in the second half to secure a 4-0 triumph over Stonehill College in a Northeast Conference women's soccer matchup at Park Ave Field tonight.

Highlights

  • Postgrad Elyssa Kipperman made six saves to preserve her second shutout of the season.
  • Senior Maria Nolan and freshman Shea Kelleher paced Sacred Heart's four different goal scorers with a goal and assist apiece.
  • Senior Mia Jackson finished with four saves in goal for Stonehill.

How it Happened

  • Sacred Heart scored all four goals in the second half after Jackson (two saves) and Kipperman (three) turned aside all five shots on goal the two teams combined to make in the opening 45. Jackson came off her line well on a Pioneers corner kick just past the half hour mark and parried the ball over the cross bar for a crucial stop in the first half.
  • Sacred Heart was able to break through just after the intermission with junior Grace O'Hara slipping a shot into the goal off a pass from Nolan for her seventh goal of the year.
  • Sophomore Morgan Bovardi doubled the Pioneers lead five minutes later with her seventh goal of the year, assisted by Kelleher in the 54th minute and then Kelleher added a marker just five minutes after that with her fifth goal of the season in the 59th minute.
  • Nolan closed out the scoring with a penalty kick in the 77th minute for her third goal of the fall – all coming from the spot.
