Softball Celebrates Senior Day Splitting DH Against FDU

EASTON, Massachusetts (April 22, 2023)- Today, the Stonehill College softball team celebrated their Senior Day by hosting a Northeast Conference doubleheader against the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson University, in the second day of a two-day series.

Game 1: In the first game of the day, the Skyhawks celebrated their Senior Day with a commemorative start of the game with family and friends. The field was stacked with seniors, but Stonehill was unable to grab the win, losing 1-7.

Key Moments:                           

  • In the bottom of the second inning, shortstop Emily Nardelli singled to the left field line, advancing second basemen Courtney Brochu to second. Then, Nardelli stole second, and with pinch runner Chloe Kelly stepping in for Brochu, and stole third.
  • Next, Nardelli stole third on a passed ball, with Kelly stealing home, putting the Skyhawks on the board.
  • In the bottom of the fifth inning, first basemen Paige Wodarski hit a double to right field, making it to second, and attempting to make it to third, but was thrown out by FDU.
  • In the top of the third inning, pitcher Kelly Mayette stepped into the circle for pitcher Molly Adamothrowing 34 strikes and four strikeouts in five innings.

Game 2: The Skyhawks played a great game of offense, having thirteen hits, eight runs, and eight RBI's, winning with a final score of 8-2.

Key Moments:                           

  • Starting the game off strong, with center fielder Natalie Bottiglieri on third, catcher Isabella Therrien singled down the left field line, sending Bottiglieri home, earning an RBI, and giving Stonehill a 1-0 lead.
  • In the bottom of the second inning, first up to bat was shortstop Nardelli, who hit a deep homerun over the left center fence, tying the score 2-2.
  • Shortly after, with left fielder Alexa Adinolfi on first, right fielder Chloe Kelly on second, and third basemen Marissa Dwyer on third, first basemen Wodarski singled to left field, sending both Dwyer and Kelly home, earning two RBI's and giving the Skyhawks as 4-2 lead.
  • During the bottom of the fifth inning, with DP Shannon Conte on first, pinch runner Maeve Proulx on second, and pinch runner Megan Weis on third, second basemen Brochu singled to right center, advancing Conte to third, and both Proulx and Weis scoring, earning two RBI's and putting Stonehill up 6-2.
  • Still in the bottom of the fifth inning, right fielder Kelly singled up the middle with pinch runner Alyssa Grossi on second and DP Conte on third, sending both runners home, earning two RBI's and scoring the final runs of the game for the Skyhawks, ending the game with a final score of 8-2.
  • Pitcher Skylar Brandemarte threw a great game for the Skyhawks, maintaining the energy and cohesiveness of the team, throwing a '3 up, 3 down' in the fifth and seventh inning,
