Softball Battles Hard in Game One of Series vs LIU

EASTON, Massachusetts (April 14, 2023)- Today, the Stonehill College softball team hosted the Long Island University Sharks, an NEC Conference competitor, at Father Gartland Field today in Easton. The Skyhawks faced LIU on day one of the two-day series, starting off strong but losing by a score of 2-8.

  • With the game remaining scoreless during the top of the first, the Skyhawks were up to bat next. In the bottom of the first inning, catcher Isabella Therrien was up to bat, hitting a high and far ball over the Skyhawk fence, earning an out-of-the-park home run, bringing in left fielder Alexa Adinolfi, bringing the Skyhawks a 2-0 lead.
  • Following the Skyhawk homerun, DP Paige Wodarski hit a double into left center, before the end of the inning.
  • The Skyhawks had three pitchers throughout the game, starting the game with Skylar Brandemarte, who threw 22 strikes, and a single strikeout. Next, Kelly Mayette took to the mound, throwing 7 strikes and one strikeout. And lastly, Molly Adamo finished the game with 10 strikes and one strikeout.

Stonehill is on the field tomorrow, Saturday, April 15th to continue the two-day series against LIU in a doubleheader matchup at Fr. Gartland Field at 1 p.m. & 3 p.m. Tomorrow's game will also honor former head Coach Ken LeGrice. Coach Ken served 12 seasons as head coach of the Stonehill softball program, leading the Skyhawks until his passing in May 2021 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He will be honored by a prayer prior to the start of the first game by Father Tim, a moment of silence, and the first pitch of the game being thrown by Coach Ken's family.
