Skyhawk Softball Finish First Conference Doubleheader Against SFU

LORETTO, Pennsylvania. (March 20, 2023)- Today, the Stonehill College softball team traveled to Loretto, Pennsylvania to play in a doubleheader against Saint Francis University at Red Flash Softball Field. This was the Skyhawks' first Northeast Conference competition of the season, where the Skyhawks put up a good effort, scoring a single run in the second game.

GAME 1: In the first game against SFU, the Skyhawks didn't make it home, and had the game cut short with a loss of 0-8 in five innings.

Key Moments:

  • SFU was able to take a heavy lead in the first two innings, scoring four runs with a score of 4-0.
  • Starting the hitting off strong was catcher Isabella Therrien with a hit in the top of the second inning to right field, hitting a single and stealing a second before the end of the inning.
  • In the fourth inning, DP Paige Wodarski had a solid hit up the middle, making it to first base with pinch runner Katelin Price taking over before the inning was over.
  • In the bottom of the third inning, Stonehill took to the field grabbing two outs at home from third basemen Shannon Conteto catcher Therrien, and then shortstop Emily Nardelli to catcher Therrien again.
  • Saint Francis was able to finish the game early in the fifth inning with a final score of 8-0.

Pitching Records:

Win: SFU- Rachel Marsden (65-47)

Loss: Stonehill- Skylar Brandemarte (66-42), Kelly Mayette (22-12)

 

GAME 2: In the second game against SFU, the Skyhawks were able to get a run on the scoreboard, finishing the game with a loss of 1-11 after six innings.

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • Saint Francis struck early in the first three innings going up by a score of 2-0 in the first inning and then had a big third inning scoring four runs, and bringing the score to 6-0.
  • In the top of the fourth inning, DP Paige Wodarski was hit by a pitch, with pinch-runner Maeve Proulx ran for Wodarski and stealing second.
  • Second basemen Courtney Brochu stepped up to the plate in the top of the fourth inning, hitting a double to right field, and sent Proulx home to score the single run for Stonehill, earning an RBI.
  • SFU was able to finish the game off early in the sixth inning, with a score of 11-1 by the end of the game.

Win: SFU- Grace Vesco (88-50)

Loss: Stonehill- Lauren Donovan (48-29), Kelly Mayette (48-27), Molly Adamo (10-5)

 

Up Next:

Stonehill is on the field again tomorrow, March 21st at 11 a.m. for their final game against Saint Francis University at the Red Flash Softball field. After that, the Skyhawks will travel to Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island for a game at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22n.
