SH Softball Battled in FGCU Doubleheader

FORT MYERS, Florida. (March 8, 2023)- Today, the Stonehill College softball team traveled to Fort Myers, Florida to play in a doubleheader against Florida Gulf Coast University. The Skyhawks put up a good effort, scoring a single run in the second game.

GAME 1: In the first game against FGCU, the Skyhawks couldn't make a run to home, and had the game cut short with a loss of 0-8 in five innings.

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • To start off the top of the first inning, left fielder Alexa Adinolfi hit a far ball to left field, making it to first base, but was left on base at the end of the inning.
  • Pitcher Skylar Brandemarte pitched the first 3 innings, throwing 26 strikes, with pitcher Kelly Mayette taking over for the Skyhawks, who pitched the rest of the game and threw 16 strikes
  • In the bottom of the third, catcher Isabella Therrien threw to shortstop Emily Nardelli who was covering second, catching FGCU runner attempting to steal and tagging them out at second.
  • In the top of the fourth, Maeve Proulx hit a single to second base, making it to second on an error by FGCU.

Pitching Records:

Win: FGCU- Ally Hulme (44-34), Claire Maulding (12-10)

Loss: Stonehill- Skylar Brandemarte (42-26), Kelly Mayette (31-16)

 

GAME 2: In the second game against FGCU, the Skyhawks were able to get a run on the scoreboard, finishing the game with a loss of 1-8 after seven innings. 

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • To start off the top of the first inning of game two, left fielder Alexa Adinolfi came in clutch again, hitting a double to left field.
  • After that, DP Paige Wodarski grounded out to the second base, moving Adinolfi to third on a fielder's choice.
  • In the top of the second, catcher Jessica Brill was walked to first base, with Emily Nardelli grounding out to the pitcher with a SAC bunt, advancing Brill to second.
  • In the bottom of the third, Brill threw to Nardelli who was covering second, catching an FGCU runner attempting to steal and tagging them out at second. Brill threw out yet another FGCU attempt of stealing second, throwing the ball to Nardelli again for another out in the bottom of the fourth inning at second base.
  • Wodarski hit another single up the middle in the top of the fourth inning, with pinch-runner Chloe Kelly stepping in.
  • In the top of the sixth, Isabella Therrien singled through the right side, making it to first base.

Win: FGCU- Angelina Bonilla (61-40), Claire Maulding (25-13), Gracie Wallace (14-10)

Loss: Stonehill- Lauren Donovan (55-26), Kelly Mayette (57-31)

 

Up Next:

Stonehill is on the field again next week, March 15th at 1 p.m. & 3 p.m. for a doubleheader against UMass Lowell in Lowell, Massachusetts. After that, the Skyhawks will begin conference competition where they will travel to Loretto, Pennsylvania to compete against Saint Francis University for a doubleheader at 1 p.m. & 3 p.m.
