Staudle Earns NE-10 Rookie of the Week

EASTON, Mass. (April 8, 2013) – Freshman Megan Staudle (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall Central) of the Stonehill College softball team was named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Staudle takes home her first career Rookie of the Week honor following a 6-1 week for the Skyhawks. The freshman posted a .417 average on 10-for-24 hitting with one double, one home run and six RBI. Staudle earned at least one hit in six of the seven games and registered multiple hits twice during the week.

The freshman recorded a monster game for the Skyhawks in game one of a Saturday afternoon double-header with the Assumption College Greyhounds. Staudle went 3-for-4 with a walk-off grand slam in the ninth inning to pilot the Skyhawks to victory.

Staudle also produced the game-winning RBI in Stonehill's 5-2 triumph over Bentley University Thursday. The freshman recorded two hits and two-RBI for the Skyhawks, including what turned out to be the game-winning RBI-single in the third inning.

So far this season, the left fielder is hitting .324 (33-for-102) with four doubles, one triple, six home runs, and 19 RBI. Staudle recently ended a nine-game hitting streak that spanned from March 28-April 7. The freshman has also recorded a .970 fielding percentage, with just one error in 33 chances.

Stonehill (18-15, 10-4 NE-10) returns to action Wednesday afternoon when it travels to UMass Lowell for a Northeast-10 Conference double-header beginning at 3:00 pm.
